Batman Group September 2018 Solicitations

Bit of a strange month. Batgirl isn't the only one with a new costume, Red Hood has got one and from the looks of it, Batman has a new (old) costume as well. Speaking of Red Hood, I feel like at a time, everyone has just said Jason Todd should be DC's Punisher, and now we've got that and... eeeeeeh. *cue that one Larry David gif* Also! Nightwing is back to double shipping for some reason, at a higher price, of course, similarly Titans is now double shipping too. James Robinson and Stephen Segovia are the latest in the Detective Comics guest arcs, and since DC doesn't seem to want to put a permanent team on that book until #1000 (March), I'm going to pick and choose what I read, much like fill-in issues. This next arc seems to have a purpose with reestablishing the Outsiders, it seems it could lead to something else... this newest solicited arc? I don't get that same feeling, but we'll see.

So yeah, weird month.

Batman #49 Preview

Without giving too much away, there's a lot of talking in this issue, and like the DC Nation #0 story, it's pretty funny in a weird situational way.

Also, just count how many shots Joker gets out of that revolver...

Sean Murphy Redesigns Batgirl

"I really like that"

::one day later::

"Oh yeah, I run a site about Batman comics..."

Well here I am! As the title says it, Sean Murphy redesigned the Batgirl costume to something more traditional, in a sense. It looks like a cross between the Batgirl: Year One costume and his own White Knight Batgirl. This change comes with storyline reasons as Barbara heads back to Gotham proper and starts using a suit she had been working on in the past.

More images of the design can be seen over at Polygon. Honestly, this may sway me a little bit towards picking the series back up... but we'll see, there's... some stuff in September worth talking about. Also, not the only costume change we're seeing!

Detective Comics #982 Preview

Haven't given this one a read yet so I'm not sure if I'll have a post about it or not given I usually pass write ups for inventory issues, we'll see. Art looks fantastic though.

Batman #48 Preview

I've got some thoughts about this issue...

Nightwing #45 Preview

It wouldn't be a Nightwing book without weird sex stuff. Just remember how the last issue ended...

First Look at Catwoman #1

Joelle Jones' Catwoman got its first look over at Nerdist, and seeing the costume in motion (along with a Artgerm variant) I'll say it's growing on me.

Also, there's a very important detail about the wedding in tomorrow's Nightwing vs Hush issue that may pertain to this series. We'll see.

Batman: Prelude to the Wedding: Robin vs. Ra's al Ghul #1 Preview (UPDATED)

Whatever CBR got/decided to do, was a hacked up post of two random pages that weren't even connected together. Having read the issue I thought "why didn't they just post the opening scene, that'd make a perfect preview" so, with the files in my inbox, that's exactly what I'm doing. Technically I have up to page 10 and well... that's excessive. You get five!

SPOILERS: Detective Comics #981

James Tynion finishes up his run on Detective, puts some toys back in the sandbox, leaves others up for debate. All in all, it was a damn good run.

Batman Group August 2018 Solicitations

The New 52 is coming back ya'll! Look at them Batgirl solicits! Hell, Rocafort couldn't even be bothered to draw anything but the New 52 costumes on that Red Hood Annual cover! FINALLY! The good shit has returned!

...

Also, Batwoman is cancelled, but I think an Amazon listing spoiled that news. Detective Comics still trying to be slick with those Outsiders solicits.

Detective Comics #981 Preview

This is a good conclusion to Tynion's run on the book, which I think has been his best work at DC. Puts characters in places I'm excited to see, and some that lead to more questions. It's been fun.

Catwoman Gets a Redesign

The late Darwyn Cooke's Catwoman design is pretty much the only costume design I've seen that's been hailed as damn near perfect, if not completely. It's stood the test of time through the New 52 and Rebirth, that is until now.

With her new series in the works, writer/artist Joelle Jones is taking her shot at giving Selina a new look and well... Yeah, Darwyn Cooke's is pretty perfect, huh? I don't dislike the new costume, it's just... you can't touch the Cooke design. This one definitely has more of a... fetish vibe, because Stjpan Sejic doesn't have enough goof shorts on his deviant art of DC heroes. The skin tight head piece, ears look more bat-like, lack of goggles, and armpits are points that stick out to me.

Also... maybe I'm reading between the lines, but that solicit seems like "I left my fiance at the alter now I need to get out of the city" sort of vibe... we'll seeeeeeee.

Remember the most recent issue of The Flash and its ending? This issue is like that, but for the Bat family.

Batman: White Knight #8 Preview

Read this one earlier today in my reviews batch. Without giving anything away, I'll say that it ends strongly. If you're reading the book... well then, at this point I don't see why you wouldn't get the last one, so I don't need to sell for you more than that, do I?

Also, just a general hint, right click the images and open them in a new tab. I don't see an enlarge button on the site.

Nightwing #44 Preview

Hey, we're back covering Nightwing now that the book has a creative team again. Art this time around looks like a cross between Frank Miller, Klaus Janson and JRJR. Pretty cool looking if I say so myself.

Batman Group July 2018 Solicitations

The wedding happens, Catwoman gets a new book, and a few minor things. Given the Batgirl solicit, it seems like Marighread Scott and Paul Pelletier are taking over that series. Now that the Bat books have a head editor again, I'd be curious to see how they look say six months from now. That said... I don't know what there would be to chagne. Figure we'll get the Detective team that'll take us to #1000... but is Red Hood even a Batbook? Cus the fucking Bizarro storyline is still going on, over a year later. Nightwing just got a new team and Batgirl seems to be getting one. No one really seems to talk about Batwoman and Birds is gone now... I don't know, something just seems to be missing from the Bat line up and I can't tell what.

Jason Fabok reportedly Illustrating Geoff Johns' Three Jokers story.

In other news, whenever Tom King or Scott Snyder was asked about the three Jokers reveal, they always answered it was a Geoff Johns thing... well now it's a Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok thing, as newly minted Bat editor Jamie S. Rich also announced at C2E2 that Jason Fabok would be illustrating whatever that is.

Not much else to go on, but there you go, Johns, Fabok, Joker. Should be good.

Catwoman #1 from Joelle Jones Launches in July

I'm so used to DC just reading solicitations at conventions 99% of the time, I barely pay attention anymore... yet here we are, Joelle Jones and colorist Laura Allred (Lady Killer reunion) will be launching Catwoman #1 in July, just announced at C2E2.

The first story apparently has Selina dealing with a copycat, committing crimes as Catwoman. Get it... copy cat... Catwoman?

I'm excited. Jones has become one of my favorite Catwoman artists of all time within a couple of months. It stings to lose her off the main Batman title, but a Catwoman book with a lot of potential to be really good makes up for it. Also, it was announced that Lee Weeks would be illustrating Batman #51-53, so that's a plus too.

UPDATE: Solicit and cover have been added thanks to the story at Paste Magazine.

Catwoman #1
Writer/Artist: Joëlle Jones
Colorist: Laura Allred
Variant Cover Artist: Stanley “Artgerm” Lau
The wedding night’s barely over, but Catwoman’s back on the streets, this time to expose a copycat who’s pulling heists around Gotham City. As Selina cracks the whip on her former criminal cohorts, she’s attracting unwanted attention from one of Gotham’s most dangerous groups. The mob? Nope. Try the GCPD. And as if the Bat-Bride didn’t have enough problems, don’t miss the debut of an all-new villain determined to make trouble for all nine of Selina’s lives. Don’t miss the start of an all-new monthly series written and illustrated by Eisner Award-nominee Joëlle Jones

Batman #44 Preview

This is one of those one-off sort of artsy issues... and it shows, because the art is the real star this week.
