Batman: White Knight #1 Preview

That's a cool opening scene, I'll say that much.

Nightwing #30 Preview

Ah, I'm going to miss Tim Seeley. I hope Sam Humphries does well, but after my mini rant in Batwoman last week about how I'd like to see writers stop mining characters "secret pasts," that first solicit didn't fill me with optimism. We'll see.

All-Star Batman #14 Preview

Almost forgot about this one, blame the delays! Don't know what comes next after this with Sean Murphy... and Lee Bermejo maybe... Is Paul Pope still on the docket? I've lost track.

Batman: The Dawnbreaker #1 Preview

Curious to see how this one plays out, seems different than the first two with Bruce getting a completely different origin rather than appropriating Flash/Cyborg's powers.

Looking Forward: October 4th, 2017

Big week next week, and we're officially in Fall now. At least the year is going by quickly?
  • Batman: White Knight #1: This one completely snuck up on me. Thought it was later in the month. Exciting!
  • Batman #32: The finale of Jokes & Riddles, what did Batman do? What will Catwoman say? Questions!
  • All-Star Batman #14: Last issue of this series, then it continues as... something different. Don't know, actually. Hope it's not an OGN, because I'd rather still get something monthly. I'm already so behind on books already.
  • Green Arrow #32: Finale of the Gotham Resistance story, big confrontations with The Batman Who Laughs, and questions of "well... these books move on from Metal, but it's still going on" storylines.
  • Batman: The Dawnbreaker #1: Zombie Green Lantern Batman?
  • Nightwing #30: Tim Seeley's last arc, sadly.
We're going to get solicitations for 2018 next month. Weird.

SPOILERS: Detective Comics #965

He, in case you haven't heard yet... Mr. Oz was revealed. Going to be using his supposed real name openly in here, so if you're not caught up with Action Comics, oh well?

SPOILERS: Suicide Squad #26

I'm sitting here trying to think of a dumb metal music pun to make and figure "welcome to the jungle" is the easy layup, only to realize the cover beat me to it. Boooooooo!

SPOILERS: Batman: The Murder Machine #1

Last week we got to learn what happens when Batman goes a little crazy with The Flash's powers, this week we get to learn what a crazy-ass Cyborg Batman would be like. Fun!

SPOILERS: Nightwing: The New Order #2

Well, after the first issue, you had to figure things go wrong at some point... and boy do they go wrong.

Nightwing: The New Order #2 Preview

The art on this series is sooooooooooooo good.

Detective Comics #965 Preview

I think we should just make a rule where Eddy Barrows should not draw people smiling. Everything else, fine... that toothy smile just creeps me out for some reason.

(Source: Multiversity)

Suicide Squad #26 Preview

Spoiler alert: This one is real fun too. And god damn it, I need more Sejic drawn Suicide Squad... Or just Harley in general. I see a lot of Sunstone influence in his renditions of her and well... *cough* yeah, that.

Excuse me.

First Look: Batman #33

So I'm sitting here like: "I'm a corporate stooge now, how come I don't get the early previews sent everywhere else?" getting a little butt hurt, then I realize I don't read all my emaaaaaaail and there's totally a .zip file in there with all this.

This art sure looks nice though. I don't know how I'm going to bet Selina answers to make Bruce go on sabbatical or whatever. The easy answer is "no, he's sad, so he has to leave." But... too easy.

Batman: The Murder Machine #1 Preview

Poor Cyborg, just working his desk job and he gets blasted by an evil Batman.

(Source: Newsarama)

Looking Forward: September 27th, 2017

End of the month, and everything is involved in big storylines. Fun times.
  • Detective Comics #965: Mr. Oz is still a thing. More of a thing in Action Comics currently. Not sure how I feel about it, gonna let that one play out, but hey, Tim!
  • Suicide Squad #26: DC teasing me with Stjepan Sejic drawing Suicide Squad issues here and there is just fucking cruel.
  • Batman: The Murder Machine #1: What happens when Bruce uploads Alfred's personality into a robot... cyborg... something. We'll see!
Comics! They're happening next week.

SPOILERS: Batman #31

One more issue left in the War of Jokes and Riddles. What did Batman do that's so bad? Well... that's what final issues are for. Har har.

SPOILERS: Nightwing #29

If the Batman Who Laughs is death metal-ish... I'd say Ice Golems are pretty power metal-ish... Nightwish... Nightwish is the only band name that I can remember. Is Nightwish still a thing? ...what was I talking about. Nightwing? Close enough.

SPOILERS: Batman: The Red Death #1

If Batman being better than everyone else and finding ways to beat whoever, then perhaps these one-shots aren't going to be for you, because on top of everything, Batman is probably going to be a dick too.

SPOILERS: Batwoman #7

New arc, old foe, similar problems.

Batman #31 Preview

With the added artists to the rotating Batman team, I'm just bummed that means whenever Mikel Janin comes back (hopefully he does), it's going to be that much longer.

Batwoman #7 Preview

I've always liked Fernando Blanco's artwork, so this seems like a good fit.

New Nightwing Creative Team Announced

Somewhat unexpectedly, Nightwing got a new creative team announced for December, consisting of writer Sam Humphries and artist Bernard Chang (and if the book remains twice monthly, we'll be sure to see another artist join at some point).  Essentially, Humphries and Seeley switched books, as Seeley was announced to be taking over writing duties of Green Lanterns a month or two ago.

My thoughts are somewhat mixed, though optimistic. On one hand, I've yet to read anything from Humphries that has grabbed me... I didn't like his Uncanny X-Force and Green Lanterns didn't hold my attention, but it's a small sample size, and I have seen people enjoying Green Lanterns. I do like Bernard Chang's art, so that's a plus. All that being said, I'm real bummed Seeley is leaving the Bat books. I've been a fan of his since Hack/Slash, and remember seeing his first Legends of the Dark Knight digital story thinking "I hope this leads to more main-line Seeley Bat stuff" and sure enough, it did and there was a lot of it.

Though, never got that Seeley written Catwoman book I dreamed about...

Looking Forward: September 20th, 2017

Metal is in full swing next week with the first of the one-shots of the twisted Batmen. I've taken a look at it, and boy does it sure look messed up.
  • Batman #31: Batman teams up with the Riddler to take the Joker down... what could go wrong?
  • Nightwing #29: Nightwing joins the Metal fun all thanks to some stuff I called awhile ago... despite playing with a loaded deck, but HEY! ...called it.
  • Batman: The Red Death #1: What would happen if Batman took the speed force from Barry Allen by force? Nothing good.
  • Batwoman #7: Batwoman's in the desert, Scarecrow's in the desert, let's make an issue of it!
Solicitations also hit next week, and there's already been some news to break coming out of it, so I'll get to that shortly.

SPOILERS: Dark Nights: Metal #2

So... I've been dreading writing this issue up, because what follows is a series of events that are so fucking strange and insane, it's hard to make a cohesive write up of it... But, shit, I'll try.

SPOILERS: Teen Titans #12

NOTE: This takes place after Dark Nights: Metal #2, so if you care enough not to be spoiled, wait til after you read that one. (Post should go up 15 minutes after this)

SPOILERS: Detective Comics #964

On one side we got Clayface being real bummed about stuff, on the other side we've got Stephanie being a big bummer in general. What to do?

SPOILERS: Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #14

And we're back... been nearly half a year since I did one of these issues? Well, that's how much I hated that new Oracle, so there you have it. Is it good to be back!? WEEEEELL...

Maybe next month?

Batman: White Knight #1 Preview

Sean Murphy is so god damn good at what he does, it isn't fair.

Also, this morning on Twitter, he said Catwoman wouldn't be in this book, but he's saving her for something else, so hopefully there's more of whatever the hell he wants to do in Gotham in the future.

Dark Nights: Metal #2 Preview

It took Snyder forever to write Damian, but him going "Listen, lady" to god damn Wonder Woman of all people, is simply the best.

(Source: Multiversity)

Detective Comics #964 Preview

I hope this issue ends with some sanctamonious speech from Steph to Batman only with him to go "Yeah yeah, Tim's alive."

(Source: Graphic Policy)

Looking Forward: September 13th, 2017

Big week next week, Metal is back along with the crossovers, and hey, it looks like I'm covering Birds of Prey again since Gus and Calculator are gone!
  • Dark Nights: Metal #2: ...I wish I could say why I'm so excited for this issue.
  • Teen Titans #12: If Damian acts the way he did in the Metal preview, then sold even more.
  • Detective Comics #964: I didn't hate the last Steph issue, so now comes the rubber match.
  • Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #14: Annnnnnd we're back, and with less nonsense character that I really disliked!
...Seriously, fucking Metal.

SPOILERS: Batman #30

If you thought Kite-Man was down on his luck and this would be where things turn around... no, that is not this issue, in any sense.

SPOILERS: Nightwing #28

I'll take any return to Spyral I can get. Ended too soon, if you ask me. At least we have these short flings... Speaking of flings...

Batman #30 Preview

If you were thinking "Man, that first Kite-Man issue didn't shit on Kite-Man enough" then I have got some good news for you.
