Batman #28 Preview

Hi, yeah, I've been out of town. Don't know if I'll get to last week's books, my just call it a mulligan and move on.

BUT FOR REAL PEOPLE. I leave town and come back to "BATMAN IS A METAHUMAN CONFIRMED!" to "Scott Snyder confirms Batman is not a metahuman!" For god's sake people, what is going on out there? Yes, I read the issue of Suicide Squad too, but I just went "What? No. Someone fucked up there." But apparently comic "news" sites have to make a thing out of it!

Fake (comic) news!

Looking Forward: July 26th, 2017

Forgot to do this post again, WHOOPS!
  • All-Star Batman #12: I swore this book came out two weeks ago...
  • Detective Comics #961: Azrael Batman suit coming back, we 90s now!
Comic-con is going on. Stuff is happening! Cool announcements are happening!

I'll be on vacation next week too... So when will I post, I don't know!

Batman and The Signal Announced at SDCC

Worst kept secret for a few months now is that Duke Thomas was going to get his own book. Hell, I didn't even bother teasing it because Snyder was out there saying it flat out.

Nevertheless, it was announced today at SDCC. Duke's codename has finally been chosen, and it's The Signal, not Lark, thank god. DC writers workshop alumni Tony Patrick will be writing it, with Scott Snyder assisting. No artist is attached as of yet.

Not sure what to think yet. There's still a good deal to be explained about Duke and the way he fits into everything, but I'll check it out. I do think that Batman: The Signal is kind of a clunky name, especially when it's not Batman's book, or so you'd think.

Expect daylight.

All-Star Batman #12 Preview

Tiger Shark has had a rough go of it, lately.

Arkham Asylum 2 Announced at SDCC

Look, I never have high expectations for DC SDCC announcements. The con is just so packed with anything but comics trying to make big announcements, it really has become where they announce an expected thing or two, then more on... I'm expecting an Outsiders or something book from Jeff Lemire and Ivan Reis for Dark Matter then word on this not exactly monthly thing All-Star Batman is turning into with other titles in the same style.

Then they just announced Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham are creating Arkham Asylum 2, set in the Damian Wayne #666 future.

SPOILERS: Batman #27

Leave it to the guy who wrote the Vision, and made it one of the best books in recent history, to make Kite Man an interesting character. Kite Man.

SPOILERS: Nightwing #25

Things don't go well in Dick's life... I'm sure you could figure them out if you've read the other issues, but hey... he gets a job this time!

Nightwing #25 Preview

I usually just take a cropped screenshot of something and link to the site to direct traffic to where it should go... but see, uses an ad-blocker blocker, fine whatever, I'll turn it off for two seconds because I'm totally going to click on ads now, right... Yeah, fuck this garbage. Just hit the jump for all the images, I'll save you the trouble from this nonsense.

Looking Forward: July 19th, 2017

Solicitations next week, as well as SDCC, and I feel like DC might have some stuff going for them around the convention... but they'll probably announce it all beforehand.
  • Batman #27: I think this is a Clay Mann issue for Kite-Man (Hell yeah!)
  • Nightwing #25: Bigger issue for the #25... more pages to break up with your girlfriend with!
  • Batwoman #5: I didn't come out of the last arc too enthused, so I may skip over the epilogue next week.
That's about it... also, Azrael is getting his Bat suit back, I'm sure we've all seen that by now.

Dark Nights: Metal #1 First Look

When I first heard the finer details of this book, it was described to me as imagining the other side of Grant Morrison's Multiversity map... I'm glad they're quite literally turning it over in here.

Batman: White Knight from Sean Murphy Announced

Sean Murphy's long-awaited Batman title has been announced, and it may be more a Joker title than anything. Batman: White Knight will see the roles in Gotham reversed with a reformed politician/Don Draper like Joker, trying to take down Batman who is seen as a villain. The first issue arrives October 4th.

First of all, the art is spectacular, fucking love that. Second of all, color me surprised to see a out of left field take on the mythos. I was expecting Sean Murphy just to do his own Batman thing, but he's pulling some drastic things, so I'm very interested in that.

I'm going to also assume that this book will be under the banner of whatever it is that DC is doing with a "new format" as described by Scott Snyder, whose All-Star Batman will be reformatted along with Sean Murphy (unrelated to this project). Disappointed we didn't hear much about that news, figured this would be the flagship, but Bleeding Cool is reporting that the initiative is lead by Mark Doyle, who is the former Bat-editor that just got promoted within DC.

If you're looking for more details, Sean Murphy is talking a lot about the book on Twitter. Seven to eight issues (I hope eight, ending books on an odd number never sits well with me, dunno why), five of which are already done. Will be in color, but he hopes to release a B&W version down the line. Not "in-continuity."

Looking Forward: July 12th, 2017

HEY! Comics. Tomorrow should be that Sean Murphy announcement, and probably some Dark Matter stuff and probably some other whatever the new format of book DC is doing stuff.
  • Dark Days: The Casting #1: Real curious to see how we get from point A to B with Metal on the horizon.
  • All-Star Batman #12: All I want is to know the name of the cool looking villain in this arc.
  • Detective Comics #960: Azrael and Zatanna! Weird combo, but I'll take it.
Birds of Prey is also out this week, but hey, I hate the new Oracle and I really fucking hate Calculator, so doubtful I'll read that... Then I just lost interest half way through the last Gotham Academy, so that's probably a no-go for me next week as well.

Nightwing #24 Preview

I feel like we're on the road to heartbreak city, especially with the Batgirl stuff teasing the return of Dick/Babs romance stuff, which I don't necessarily need in lieu of.
