Stack Rundown, 05/29/2016

Shorter post than it normally would be, as I have already written about Rebirth, Superman and Justice League, so you can check that out here. Other than that, looking forward to Rebirth kicking off in full next week, I'll be reading stuff from a lot of corners of the DCU that I haven't read in a good long time.

Batman: Rebirth #1 Preview

I'm just about as heterosexual as you can get, but I sure am looking forward to the feud between Tom King and Tim Seeley to see whose book can out sexy the other.

Looking Forward: June 1st, 2016

Starting Rebirth off slow, but looking at it, it seems like I'm checking out the rest of the one shots next week, so look forward to my thoughts next weekend, I guess.
  • Batman: Rebirth #1: Tom King and Scott Snyder apparently will be setting up their respective series. Curious to see what the balance will be like... Calendar Man?
Exciting times ahead, it seems.

SPOILERS: Batgirl #52

Batgirl says goodbye to Gotham as she hits the road for her new series... except her other series where she is in Gotham with the Birds of Prey, but you know... comics and all that.

Rebirth: Legacy and Who's to Blame for the New 52

Today was it, Rebirth happened, and boy did it happen. I managed to stay away from most of the spoilers. Found out due to no one having chill who the POV character was, but considering I just randomly tweeted that guess out days prior, I'm not that mad... so you know #FHIZWASRIGHT! But I had scanned across some of the... late game stuff I guess, and wish I didn't, but what are you going to do?

So, I'm gonna talk about all the books right here and now. I'll get to my Batgirl write up tomorrow. Justice League, Superman and Rebirth, some summary of what went down and my thoughts... But first, let's get to the real revelation of today: Who is to blame for all the miserable bleak New 52 nonsense that DC is desperately trying to fix

Batgirl #52 Preview

Welcome to Gotham Spoilers, ironically, seemingly the last bastion of the internet that won't indulge in Rebirth spoilers. That said, maybe don't scroll down on the DC page for this preview unless you want to see a picture and a headline for a big spoiler.

Stack Rundown, 05/22/2016

T'was the week before Rebirth, and all through the house... Yep, that's pretty much where I stopped thinking about that one. Was going to throw a Berganza joke in there, but just too many syllables to try and cut down.

But anyways, I read jack shit this week. Initially it was just one other issue, then I decided to pick up Invincible despite last month, because I just literally had nothing else to read.

Looking Forward: May 25th, 2016

Well next week is sure to be interesting.
  • Batgirl #52: I don't know, some bad guy and Babs goes on a road trip.
THEN THERE'S REBIRTH. To be perfectly honest, I may use Wednesday for all Rebirth talk, whatever that may be, and hold off on Batgirl until Thursday, because you know... New "I'll get to it when I get to it, this ain't my job" FHIZ and all that.

But Rebirth is going to be a big deal, clearly. Not only do we have that Rebirth issue, but there's also Justice League #50, which I think, for better or worse, is where Geoff Johns is gong to tell us who he wants the Joker to be... and then he runs off to "course-correct" DC's movies.

Can we talk about that? What does it fucking say, that ONE movie into your big shared universe, Warner Bros goes "Ah shit, we got to "course correct" this right now." Step one: Stop relying on Zack Snyder, thank you!

ANYWAYS. Yeah, Joker... I don't know how I feel about that, but I'll tell you when I do.

SPOILERS: Harley Quinn #28

Of course when I think "I really don't want to spend time writing up this book anymore" it puts out an issue that actually does a pretty good job of being more than just 20 more pages of one-note gags.

SPOILERS: Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death #5

Okay, maybe I was off on my Swamp Thing prediction, but given the solicitation for the final issue, can't blame a guy for trying... Instead we get a far less interesting last page... Yay?

Batman Group August 2016 Solicitations

August solicitations roll around. Nothing to really note in terms of changes in creative teams... there better god damn not be, I'll tell you that. Kind of disappointed that we've seen a couple of the covers already. Also, Gotham Academy is getting an annual.

Harley Quinn #28 Preview

Okay, I don't know, maybe I'll do a full post on this. I'm reading barely anything this week, so having just a stack rundown post with this issue would seem silly.

Looking Forward: May 18th, 2016

Thanks for the responses on last night's post. Nice to see that people actually care. The idea of not doing everything immediately on Wednesday might come to pass. Speaking of which, I've also decided to stop full coverage of Harley Quinn, as all my thoughts on that title have been the same month-to-month for a while... IE "It's still fun, but boy has it gotten old in the grand scheme of things." So that's that.
  • Poison Ivy: Cycle of Death #5: Man I was real high on this book to start, but the story has panned out in a less than enthusiastic way. $10 says last page Swamp Thing reveal.
I'd expect solicitations for August to hit on Monday too. That batch will of course include All-Star Batman #1, which Scott Snyder has begun to tease with a little of art that looks cropped from the cover. I believe Danny Miki and Dean White are on inks/colors respectively.

Gotham Spoilers and Rebirth

So let's talk about Rebirth and my coverage of it... or lack there of. Okay, that's a little extreme, but that said, the short end of it is: running this site is hardly is any fun for me anymore.

I started this site when I didn't have anything to do, but however many years later, my Wednesdays now consist of me coming home and having to plough through any comic I have to cover for the site, figure out something to say about them, and write it up ASAP so I can have time to myself to eat, watch tv, play a game, whatever. It's an awful way to read comics.

With Rebirth around the corner and double shipping being the name of the game, I can already see the fatigue setting in, so I'm looking for ways to continue maintaining this site but scaling back so it doesn't feel as much like a rewardless job. My number one idea to cut back is to basically handle weekly posts on Wednesday a lot like I do Stack Rundown, where I just write about my thoughts (not caring about spoilers, obviously) instead of trying to write down a detailed description of what happens. But for the sake of organization, that might be a little messy, so I could just stick to individual posts, but with less detail. We'll see how it works.

Overall, I still want to continue running Gotham Spoilers, but the fact is, I'm just tired. Feeling pressured to read books sucks. This feels like a job, not a hobby, and I already have a job... one that I'm paid to do. So the coming months might be a little weird in terms of the site. Just giving a heads up. If I decide to do anything major, I'll clearly post about it here.

SPOILERS: Batman #52

Before we close out this volume of the series, we take one more visit to Bruce's past.

Stack Rundown, 05/08/2016

Can we all agree that "Martha" was the stupidest fucking part of that movie? "Oh hey Superman, I'm going to murder you--WHAT DID YOU SAY? We best friends now! I failed you in life but I won't fail you in death WHAT AM I TALKING ABOUT!?"

Gah... stupid movie.

Batman #52 Preview

Well, long time no see. I haven't read any comics this week, and it's been great! I guess I should get on that, after all I did buy a handful. Anyways, here's a preview for the thing the title says it is.

Stack Rundown, 05/01/2016

Welcome to May. Rebirth happens this month, and I'm kind of excited? I keep reminding myself that I've heard at least once that things over at DC are kind of insane... still... as in New 52 insane, but hopefully it all works out. I tallied up how many books I plan to at least give a shot, and god damn... I haven't read that many books in a LONG time.
