Batgirl #49 Preview

DAMN. Was gonna post this earlier, but work... gah. Seems like there's going to be different artists for different aspects of Babs' mind or something... Including her old costume! Retweeted some of that this weekend.

Stack Rundown, 2/28/2016

Welcome to the REAL last day of February, none of this bullshit February 29th nonsense around here. Tomorrow is March 1st as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure President Trump will fix this!

...oh god.

It should also be worth noting that I am reading Sunstone vol. 4, but I am not super human, I have barely had enough time to start reading it let alone finish it in less than a week for this post. Still good!

Batman and Robin Eternal #22 Preview

I like the shading and coloring going on here. I enjoy Fernando Blanco's work in general, but it looks real good in this preview.

Looking Forward: March 2nd, 2016

March huh. That much closer to Rebirth I guess. Hopefully we get some actual info before Wonder Con, because books are gonna have to be solicited at some point prior to that...
  • Batman and Robin Eternal #22: Damian shows up, better late than never.
  • Batgirl #49: I expect 20 pages of braindead Babs drooling everywhere.
Seriously... DC, announce some shit before then, going a month silent would suuuuuck.

Stack Rundown, 02/21/2016

With all the Rebirth news this week, the last thing I wanted to do after Thursday was read more comics, just too much thinking about them. So, Thursday, Friday, Saturday... Nothing. Then I woke up today and went "eh, I should probably read those" and saw the Archie face above, illustrated by Veronica Fish, and thought "Comics are going to be alright."

Grayson #17 Preview

That Nightwing book better be fucking phenomenal.

(Source: Comics Alliance)

Batman and Robin Eternal #21 Preview

I was going to say it'll be weird not to have a weekly Eternal book, but with Batman and Detective double shipping, it's pretty much the same thing $$$wise for DC, potentially more.

Looking Forward: February 24th, 2016

With all the Rebirth stuff yesterday, totally forgot to do this post.
  • Batman and Robin Eternal #21: Mother origin!
  • Grayson #17: God, Nightwing better be interesting and not some "Well he's Nightwing again, that's that!"
  • We Are Robin #9: Hopefully we get more Jokerz gang and not just that one douche I didn't like.
Previews a'coming right up.

And Here's a Big List of Rebirth Books

Jesus, I really wish they'd announce this in one post, CBR's got like four or five posts about this stuff already. Anyways, here are the books... Everything will be starting off with Rebirth One shots, followed by the regular titles. No creative teams announced. Those will come on March 26th... after solicitations, which doesn't make sense.

Here's the First Rebirth Details

There's a retailer meeting today, and DC has got some news. So here's what you can expect with Rebirth:

First, it starts with a one shot written by Geoff Johns, and illustrated by some of his most high profile collaborators, Ivan Reis, EVS, Gary Frank, Phil Jimenez. This issue comes out on May 25th, it will be 80 pages. DC Universe Rebirth #1. Basically, they're doing a Flash and Green Lantern style story where they bring stuff back and build everything back up without erasing shit.

What's that mean for the books? Well, specific details are unknown, but some business details were announced: First, all the books are being relaunched with #1, except Action Comics and Detective Comics, which will regain their old numbering, with the New 52 issues added on to it. We'll get #1,000 soon enough. All the books are going back to being priced at $2.99 which is very welcome, and to be honest, quite surprising. On top of that, a few "core" books will be going bi-weekly.

Within the CBR media, Geoff Johns named dropped a few things like Birds of Prey including Barbara, Helena and Dinah, creator names mentioned was James Tynion and the Bat office.

The idea of legacy has been thrown about, and Johns likens Rebirth to The Force Awakens, which pushed the Star Wars universe forward while playing with the old tropes and ideas that made people love the franchise in the first place. So basically, Marvel and DC are merging. CONFIRMED.

On top of that, today DC signed writer Tom King and artists Clay Mann and John Timms to exclusive contracts. All three of these guys are regulars to the site, being involved with Grayson, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. Unfortunately, this means Tom King will be ending his stellar run on Marvel's Vision at issue #12, but I guess Batman whatever he's writing for DC makes up for that.

I'm hoping we get more info coming out of the actual retailer meeting, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I was hoping for a sort of book bomb drop and just announcing all sorts of titles, but we'll probably have to wait a little more for that.

Batman Group May 2016 Solicitations

So, if we're to believe these solicitations, NOTHING is cancelled, that's right, Rebirth is nothing, next month will continue on as normal, even though we know for a fact some books are indeed ending like Starfire and Omega Men.

But for real, these are the last issues. Read the text, look at how many covers are "put every character that has appeared in the book on the cover," I mean shit, the cover of Secret Six features the characters toasting.

I guess no Rebirth news today. Maybe tomorrow if we're to believe Geoff Johns? or Thursday... or Friday.

It's Not a Reboot... and it Never Was

Jesus christ. Do it. Fucking do it. Make this all some sort of "We were all in the regular pre-New 52 universe the whole time" nonsense, because that'll be a clean transition easily enough to navigate.

Let's Discuss Rebirth

So, with May solicits due tomorrow, I'm going to guess the earliest we hear about what Rebirth is tomorrow as well. Is that a guarantee? By no means, but, it would make some sense for DC to solicit their last round of the regular titles and then go "also, here's a tease of what Rebirth is." So with that in mind, buckle in for a long post of my thoughts, predictions and concerns as we venture into yet another new direction in the DC Universe.

Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death #2 Preview

Man this book looks real nice. Here's to hoping DC publishes a mini series with no fill-in, because man does it look good.

Robin: Son of Batman #9 Preview

And then Damian got the complete first season of Lost on DVD.

Harley Quinn #25 Preview

I feel like this series can't go a certain amount of issues without a Harley and Ivy slumber party... Not that I'm complaining, just a casual observation.

Also, I guess I should address on the site why I didn't cover Little Black Book this week. Well, it was more of the same "good god, I don't care about these other characters" added to the fact that these are one off stories (for the most part, as the continuing story line deals with the characters I don't give a shit about) which I don't like spending a lot of time on writing up anyways. So that's that, just going to stick to the main book given all the Harley saturation.

Looking Forward: February 17th, 2016

Comics are happening, and maybe some big news?
  • Batman and Robin Eternal #20: Someone pointed out this is sort of like the Leviathan storyline... God damn it.
  • Robin: Son of Batman #9: NO idea what's going on with this book. Gleason is here this issue, maybe the next? Then no more? Fuck if I know.
  • Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death #2: The first issue was fun, sexy and surprising, looking forward to this next one.
  • Harley Quinn #25: Probably the last issue of Harley with a hair color that properly contrasts her pure white skin... Look, if you want her to look like Margot Robbie, fine, do that... don't make some poorly conceived hybrid of the two.
News you say? Well... Solicits might happen next week? I can hardly keep track of this stuff when there are five Mondays in a month. If solicits come and if Rebirth is a total #1 relaunch, I expect a few things (given solicits happen): First, "FINAL ISSUE" all around, because May would be #52 for original New 52 books, and at this point with DC's number fetish, going past that would be stupid. Second, some issues, possibly Batman (because Snyder ain't on #52) could potentially be new creative teams getting their feet wet. Third, the rest of the books will be garbage inventory issue fill in not worth reading. Fourth, and I just thought of it and had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach because there's a good chance this could happen, lots of "REDACTED" or "TBAs" to be had in solicit text, which means DC doesn't fucking know who is doing what yet.

We'll see, if solicits don't happen next week, then it will definitely be the next week. Maybe DC talks about Rebirth books too, maybe they save it for March. Who can say?

Black Canary #8 Preview

Will this book turn into a new Birds of Prey? Who knows. Fletcher gave Newsarama an interview saying there are plans that lead into 2017, but we all know Rebirth or whatever is coming so if there's gonna be a change...

(Source: AV Club)

Gotham Academy #15 Preview

Again, not sure if I'm going to do a full post on this given how the write up of the last issue went. Might do a little something, or might save it for Stack Rundown. Regardless, I'll still be reading and plan to continue full coverage once the title gets back to full plot rather than anthology style stories.

Stack Rundown, 02/07/2016

TODAY'S THE BIG GAME! And I don't really have any investment in who wins... but Peyton has a big dumb head, so go Panthers. Also, if you say "I watch it for the commercials" you're a liar or in denial, because those commercials have been awful for the past handful of years.

Batman #49 Preview

This issue looks weird as hell. Also, can I tell you how excited for Wonder Woman: Earth One I am?

Harley's Little Black Book #2 Preview

Please don't introduce like 10 more new characters to keep track of, please don't introduce like 10 more new characters to keep track of, please don't introduce like 10 more new characters to keep track of.

Batman and Robin Eternal #19 Preview

Best this series has looked in some time and hey, Seeley wrote this issue, I feel like he hasn't written an issue since way early on in the book.

Looking Forward: February 10th, 2016

Really looking forward to next week's Batman, I'll say that.
  • Batman #49: The art teases we've seen looks like Bruce becomes Bat-Jesus or something. Curious as to what this issue turns out to be.
  • Batman and Robin Eternal #19: Who is ready for the Bat family to beat up a bunch of teenage girls?!
  • Black Canary #8: Thanks to this week's Batgirl, we pretty much know Dinah is now looking for her mom.
  • Harley's Little Black Book #2: Please be focused on Harley and Green Lantern, rather than Harley, Green Lantern, and like six other new characters who are kind of unnecessary!
Don't know if I'm going to be giving anymore of these Gotham Academy Year Book issues the full write up treatment, might save them for Stack Rundown until the book returns to normal... presumably post-rebirth or something.

Also, Tim Seeley and Juan Ferreyra's first issue of New Suicide Squad comes out next week, and based on the creative team, I'm going to bet it'll be pretty good.
