Looking Forward: January 4th, 2017

2016 was a shitty year, but it was pretty good for DC Comics? At least the last half. Been reading way more DC than I have in years. Hope it continues throughout 2017.
  • Batman #14: Batman has romance.
  • Nightwing #12: Nightwing has a giant whale lady punching Nightwing in the face.
Stack rundown coming as always, then that's it for 2016.

Nightwing #12 Preview

Where did Orca die in the previous continuity? Was it the Face to Face story right after One Year Later? I don't remember... Actually, I don't really care. Just filling space here, because I don't really read these previews!

Batgirl #6 Preview

I very much hope this is a better issue than that whole Kai nonsense arc. Ivy being here may do something towards me wanting to see this book be more "Rebirth" oriented. (Aka, use the universe)

Detective Comics #947 Preview

All you Stephanie Brown fans, I hope you got your fill of her being in a prominent role for a few months, because byeeeeeeeee (probably).

Yay for no fun.

(Also, I bet the answer to Batman's question is by hurting his feelings)

Stack Rundown, 12/24/2016

T'was the night before Christmas, and I really didn't want to do this tomorrow nor was anyone even going to bother reading it, so fuck it, let's do this now.

Gotham Spoilers Plays: Batman Episode 5 - "City of Light"

Boy it was a pain in the ass getting this videos uploaded. For whatever reason, my iMac craps out on larger files. Should probably just run an ethernet cable. Anyways.

So the big ol' finale! BOY, did it run like total shit for me... part of the reason why it took so long to get this up is because I just didn't want to deal with it. Game crashed on me a total of three times in this episode alone. Watch the opening minutes, game runs at what has to be a single digit frame rate at points. Hell, in the third video, after my second crash, it just started me at a later point in the story, which then made me miss a trophy and end up not getting the platinum trophy when I beat the game... which is IMPOSSIBLE. Sure, I could have recorded that scene or two when I went back to get the trophy, but I felt it necessary to present it the way I originally played it... in all its stank.

Anyways, here it is, thoughts afterwards.

All-Star Batman #5 Preview

The art on this arc has been spectacular. Know there's a great lineup of artists coming up, but I'm definitely going to miss the current look.

Looking Forward: December 28th, 2016

It's going to be the last week of the year, I can't promise how enthusiastic I will be to do anything next week. But it'll happen.
  • All-Star Batman #5: End of the first arc, real curious to see how the next couple of issues will tie together.
  • Detective Comics #947: Well, I hope we all got our Stephanie fill, because it seems she's going back on the shelf for a bit.
  • Batgirl #6: I don't know man... it's a one off issue, maybe it'll be better than that first arc and will get me to stick around.
  • Mother Panic #2: It seems like there's been a longer than normal gap between the first issue and now.
Post about the last episode of that Batman game should be up at latest tomorrow afternoon. Break time!

Batman Group March 2017 Solicitations

March books just in, there's some differences in creative teams, but we're getting to that point with the double shipping where art switches were expected, by me at least. I think I read somewhere they're giving time to the Detective artists so they can operate on a Batman like process with David Finch and Mikel Janin switching arcs. Kenneth Rocafort is drawing a Red Hood issue... DC, pay that man. Then there's stuff like Batgirl getting an annual... let's see if I'll still be reading it by March.

Batman #13 Preview

Oh, something is most definitely going on. We're all getting worked! Speaking of getting worked, pretty decent exploder suplex by Bane there... now if only he'd put on some fucking pants.

Who's ready for some flashbacks!?

Stack Rundown, 12/18/2016

Time to get into that Christmas spirit. Can't say I'll be doing one of these next week since it will literally be Christmas and I don't want to be spending time on this site, so maaaaaaaybe Monday?

Thursday, December 15, 2016

Looking Forward: December 21st, 2016

T'was a couple days before Christmas, and the solicits came out... That's it.
  • Batman #13: End of the "I am Suicide" arc. Wondering if the swerve I think is going to happen actually happens.
  • Nightwing #11: Nightwing vs. D-Listers galore!
Like I said, solicits next week. A couple have already started to show up. We're getting a Batgirl Annual with Supergirl guest starting.

SPOILERS: Red Hood and the Outlaws #5

Spoilers: Black Mask takes off his mask and there's more Black Mask.

SPOILERS: Detective Comics #946

Because if Birds of Prey wasn't enough to make me go "I don't know how I feel about this" lets see how I feel about a potential heel turn in this book, shall we?

SPOILERS: Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #5

That moment where you think a good series makes a really bad turn and you can't do anything to stop the oncoming crash.

Stack Rundown, 12/11/2016

I forgot to read comics this week. Busy work stuff. Moving offices. Yo, you need someone to make audio and video cables? I got you. Also, I was pretty much just sleeping.

Thursday, December 8, 2016

Looking Forward: December 14th, 2016

Knock four more issues out before the end of the year, which gets closer and closer.
  • Detective Comics #946: Stephanie is going to turn heel, isn't she?
  • Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #5: Please... just don't be The Calculator. or Frankie, I feel like those are the two options. Maybe the rogue AI from the last Batgirl creative team? But seriously. Say no to the Calculator.
  • Red Hood and the Outlaws #5: Jason probably tries to punch Bizarro and it probably doesn't go well.
  • Gotham Academy: Second Semester #4: Expulsion!
Gotham Academy might wait until next Thursday, as I'm trying to keep to a three book a day limit. We'll see though.

SPOILERS: Batman #12

We get Bruce's response to Selina's letter, and are people really made about the razor thing? I can't tell anymore, I stopped paying attention to everyone a long time ago.

SPOILERS: Nightwing #10

Dick goes back (ish) to Blüdhaven, and that's the only time you'll ever see me put the umlaut on that word, because it's  a fucking pain in the ass otherwise.

Nightwing #10 Preview

I feel like this is the first time I've seen Damian directly interact with Barbara as Batgirl.

Also, not a fan of how Dick is being colored here. Ghostly white on top of a ghostly white background. Not great.

Batman #12 Preview

Frowny Batman is frowny.

Stack Rundown, 12/4/2016

Here we are. December. 2016. Almost over. Fuck this year. But at least comics are generally good? This time last year I was thinking "Batman is good... So is Grayson... there's a few other things, buuuuuuut." Now I'm just reading a whole lot of shit, most of which is good! Hooray.

Thursday, December 1, 2016

Looking Forward: December 7th, 2016

Yeah, didn't do an Annual post because it wasn't worth the time. The one worthwhile story can be found in its entirety in the preview. Other than that... Steve Orlando's got a villain that might do something. I don't know.
  • Batman #12: I bet Batman isn't nearly as betrayed as we're lead on to believe.
  • Nightwing #10: Dick is back in Blüdhaven, and is bringing Marcus To on art with him.
Thaaaaaaat's about it.

Batman Annual #1 Preview

Well, there's the entirety of Tom King's story for this annual, and the introduction of Ace the Bat Hound in the ever expanding stable of animals held within the Batcave.

Gotham Spoilers Plays: Batman Episode 4 - "Guardian of Gotham"

Ah, look at this with the quick turnaround, holiday included. Only one more episode to go after this one, and maybe that one won't crash on me mid play through, making me edit two cuts together!

Take a break, fix your shit, Telltale.

Thursday, November 24, 2016

Looking Forward?: November 30th, 2016

Not quite sure if I'll actually be doing anything next week.
  • Batman Annual #1: I'll skim through this to see if there's anything worthwhile, then do a post about it. But if it's just a collection of disconnected short stories that don't really add anything to the current continuity (aka, nothing that will ever be revisited) then I'll pass and take the week off.
That's it. Go eat some stuff, I guess.

Detective Comics #945 Preview

Was a bit concerned when I found out this issue had an unannounced art switch, saw this, thought it looked okay, then saw there's another artist on top of this, so it could be all sorts of inconsistent, who knows!? Double shipping, am I right?

Batman Group February 2017 Solicitations

February is here, or will be, and these are the comics that come with it.

Some new stuff, Batwoman being the biggest of the bunch. New one-off artist for All-Star Batman in Tula Lotay, which is fucking perfect for Poison Ivy, and a new member of the Detective Comics team in the from of Azrael, which is probably pretty predictable.

Batgirl #5 Preview

Given my thoughts on the book so far and the February 2017 solicit text going all in on one of my bigger criticisms so far, gonna say that I'm about this close to dropping this book.

Stack Rundown, 11/20/2016

I didn't read most of these comics till late last night or this morning, but somehow I got this post up real earlier than usual. I don't know what just happened.

Thursday, November 17, 2016

Looking Forward: November 23rd, 2016

Thanksgiving week here in the US, but there are still comics to read.
  • Detective Comics #945: Stephanie plays the blame game with Batman if the cover is anything to go by.
  • Batgirl #5: Well, it's the end of an arc that I didn't like at all, so there you go.
February solicitations should hit next week as well. Look forward to Batwoman: Rebirth and I think Super Sons as well as Justice League of America finally hit in February as well.

SPOILERS: Batman #11

Remember that first arc where I was like "this is cool, but it's missing that moral ambiguity from Tom King that makes you question how you feel about everything that something such as Omega Men featured."

SPOILERS: Nightwing #9

Nightwing and his new old best friend Superman team up to punch some dreams!
