Batman Eternal 2: Electric Boogaloo?

Above is a screenshot from Scott Snyder's current Reddit AMA where he was asked if there would be more Batman Eternal, which there has been some mixed messaging about in recent months... And apparently, yes... yes there will be some more Batman Eternal.

One can figure the "break" Snyder mentions would be April/May, when DC is moving to the West Coast and whatever that Bandaid project I have absolutely no interest in by the sounds of it is being published. But perhaps more, because like he mentioned, they've got to get very far ahead on a weekly series.

I'm torn... I'd be interested in reading another big story like this that sort of brings everyone in, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel like Eternal drags on a bit from time to time. Pacing on a weekly has got to be tough, but if we were to get more, I'd like to see it tightened up a bit more, and no more "Well, that was the last of this plotline we'll see for months" (Hellooooo nano-virus swarm Red Robin is dealing with... MIA since issue #5...). But I would be interested to see a post-Doyle reflection of Gotham in a weekly format, especially if books like Grayson, Batgirl and Gotham Academy were keeping to themselves. It'd be fun to see all those elements potentially come together without compromising the original titles.

Looking Forward: November 5th, 2014

NOVEMBER! That just means we're closer to December! Which then means we're that much closer to 2015! What the fuuuuuck?
  • Batman Eternal #31: Alfred and Bane team up! What else do you need to know! That's weird as shit!
  • Grayson #4: If that cover is representative of anything, it seems Dick Grayson being surrounded by a school full of assassin women is going to backfire. Oh, Dick.
  • Gotham Academy #2: Olive has some mysterious past with Batman, perhaps we'll learn more!
No Detective Comics coverage from me next week, given the first issue in that story and how I didn't give a daaaaaaamn about it, I'd rather save my $4.

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #30

Given that this is my 30th straight week writing about Batman Eternal, I'm thinking of doing something different with these spoiler posts, just sort of giving the quick rundown of the big events... Let's see how this goes.

SPOILERS: Harley Quinn Annual #1

If DC was a person who decided to buy weed for the first time, they'd definitely be that poor sap who ended up smoking oregano. AM DISAPPOINTED IN HOW THIS ISSUE SMELLS.

Batman Eternal #34 Cover

Oh jeez, Hush has his Batman boner again.

Harley Quinn Annual #1 Preview

FOR SCIENCE... I will be picking up a print copy of this issue to verify certain scents smell like they're supposed to... Also, DC is putting out a scratch and sniff issue in 2014. That's equal parts amazing as it is dumb! Very appropriate for this book!

Hey Spectre, you know what would have helped out a lot, if you decided to come help way earlier. Thanks for nothing, jerkbutt!

Batman Eternal #32 Cover

Damn Stephanie Brown, you just got Hush'd!

Stack Rundown, 10/25/2014

A little late this morning... Drank a bit too much last night and failed to write up the last three books I read this week, but nevertheless, here I am! NOTHING STOPS THIS TRAIN! ...just delays it.

Looking Forward: October 29th, 2014

Ah, the fabled fifth week in comics! These weeks always screw me up, because like any rational person, my perspective on time in regards to how deep into a month I am is judged by which books are coming out that week... Because who needs calendars, am I right!? Grayson means it's the first week of the month, Batman the second, Batman and Robin the third, and so on. These fifth weeks are just pure anarchy.
  • Batman Eternal #30: If you read Arkham Manor this week, you might have heard Arkham done blown up... Why they just didn't hold Manor back until this week, to space out all the new titles, I don't know, but whatever.
  • Harley Quinn Annual #1: I'll be picking up a print version of this in an attempt to verify that some of the smells they're trying to portray are accurate... for science!
In case you haven't heard, I don't make a dime off this site, because I do it for the love of the game! But that doesn't pay the bills! So if you've got trades you want to order online or something, do so by visiting the store links I've got banners to! Buying stuff after accessing the site via my referral banners helps me out which helps YOU out cus you get shit and I keep doing this!

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #29

Remember all that stuff going on in Arkham? Yeah, it sure has been awhile, but it definitely is still happening... We should probably check in on that, I guess.

SPOILERS: Arkham Manor #1

Who needs Batman Eternal #30? Arkham blows up when this book says it blows up! Next week be damned!

SPOILERS: Catwoman #35

SURPRISE! Selina Kyle... eerrrrr, Calabrese, is running Gotham's underworld! When did that happen? Hell if I know, but it's pretty gooooooood.

SPOILERS: Harley Quinn #11

Given this book's M.O., and the inclusion of Power Girl, you'd expect there to be a TON of boob jokes in here... Surprisingly, there weren't that many... Well, I mean... there were a lot... But I was expecting that much more.

Batman Group January 2015 Solicitations

Happy New Year! In terms of solicits, at least. No major changes in the Batman books to take note of, other than Jason Masters filling in on Batwoman for the month.

SPOILERS: The New Robin Is...

Reveal after the jump!

Batman Eternal #33 Cover

I think one of the best parts about Batman Eternal has been the line up of cover artists they've got, AND OH HEY, speaking of which, take a look at Rafael Albuquerque's cover for #33.

Still hoping with get a month of Jenny Frison covers given she and Tim Seeley work in the same studio. Her covers for Revival and a bunch of Dynamite books have been stunning, so I need to see some Bat stuff drawn by her.

Be Warned: Robin Spoilers Possibly Coming Today

It's that time of the month again... Er. Solicit time, that is. January 2015 solicitations for DC are bound to start coming out very soon, and do you know what that means? The first issue of Batman and Robin post-Robin Rises will be amongst them. Now, I figured DC may not want to spoil the outcome of the story, and would pull an Endgame sort of deal by being really vague while not revealing the real covers.

Perhaps not.

Just minutes ago, Peter Tomasi sent this tweet out:

Given today is solicitation day, it seems like DC may not wait and instead, do the sort of shitty thing of spoiling the results ahead of time, which is par for the course with both them and Marvel lately.

Regardless, the answers are probably coming in the solicits, so if you want to avoid those spoilers... which would be odd since you visit a site called Gotham Spoilers, you may want to not be on the internet from about now until mid-January.

If I've got the time later, I'll definitely be making a post about whatever we learn today.

Arkham Manor #1 Preview

Takes place after Batman Eternal #30? Well, that was timed poorly, especially considering there's another Wednesday left in October, the same one #30 comes out. Oh well, this looks awesome... Not sure what that line about Bruce losing the fortune was about, but maybe it was just Hady being a dick.

This is definitely a case of the art absolutely nailing the tone. Simon Coleby was a real good choice for this issue, that's for sure.

Batman Beyond Saturdays, 10/18/2014

So, seems like I forgot to do this post for a good portion of the day. WHOOPS.

Stack Rundown, 10/18/2014

Pretty short stack for me this week, especially compared to last. Some Axis stuff, one Image book, and the new Lex Luthor book is pretty cool... Oh wait, that's just Justice League. Could have fooled me.

Catwoman #35 Preview

Really excited for this, but what concerns me is how little time there's been between Selina getting to this point in Eternal and this first issue of the new direction. Nothing substantial has been setup in Eternal, so this book and where it goes seems to be a pretty blank slate, which can be both a blessing and a curse. I guess we'll find out next week, I've got high hopes.

Batman Eternal January 2015 Solicitations

AH! 2015! What? No. Stop that!

Man, we're syncing up to Batman #28 real late in the series. Later than I would have expected. The last third seems to have moved to the last fourth of the series. Hmm, whatever. Ivan Reis handles covers for the new year, while Juan Jose Ryp, Joe Quinones (who I'm excited for) and David Lafuente tackle art duties.

Looking Forward: October 22nd, 2014

Another interesting week to look forward to coming up.
  • Batman Eternal #29: Selina's heel-turn is complete, time to revisit Batwing whose presumably just been chilling under Arkham Asylum, totally fucked...
  • Arkham Manor: Speaking of Arkham Asylum, I guess it's gonna have to blow up or something in that issue of Eternal considering uh... this.
  • Catwoman #35: The national nightmare is over! Catwoman is readable again! Have I read it? No. Is this the first comic Genevieve Valentine has written? Yes. But fuck man, anything, literally anything will be better than what this book had been for nearly two years.
  • Harley Quinn #11: I'm as sure that this team-up with Power Girl is going to go terribly wrong as I am that there will be plenty of boob jokes. So basically, the world is going to blow.
And that'll be the last of the new crazy Gotham titles, at least until November. It's been a great month for comics so far, so hopefully it closes out strong.

SPOILERS: Batman and Robin #35

No more preparation for Apokolips, Batman is at Darkseid's front door, and leaving kicked-ass in his wake. Meanwhile... Cyborg gets trolled.

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #28

Considering the next issue of her series comes out in a week, Batman Eternal definitely took it's time getting Selina to the Batman #28 status quo, but nevertheless, here it is.

Batman and Robin #35 Preview

Bat-Cow! I've said it before, you can't just put a god damn cow in the Batcave then pretend it never happened. Bullshit! So thank you Batman and Robin for getting the only continuity that matters right. I won't stop my pro-Bat-Cow crusade until we get some cow in Snyder and Capullo's Batman, because asking Greg Capullo to draw a cow is really funny to me.

Batgirl, Harley and Gotham Academy's Jan. Covers

More art releases from NYCC, this time we get a few covers that were shown off at the Women of DC panel. Above is Batgirl #38, and the covers to Harley Quinn #14 and Gotham Academy #4 are after the jump.

Batman Beyond Saturdays, 10/11/2014

Batman Beyond 2.0 circles all the way back to the beginning as the series nears its conclusion.

First Look at Harley Quinn Annual #1

More NYCC related art has been released, and this time we get a look at the various art which will be featured in the Harley Quinn Annual #1... which is gonna smell like weed in the US. Weird that they'll be doing it, but okay then! All I know is Stjepan Sejic will have art featured in a regular DC book and I'm looking forward to that.

(Source: DC Comics)

Stack Rundown, 10/11/2014

T'was a rather large week for my Image pull, a good selection of new #1s to be read, including Scott Snyder and Jock's Wytches, apparently already coming soon to a theatre near you, maybe. But there was also Axis which is basically the event I've been waiting for since the first arc of Uncanny Avengers and that was... insane. So let's get to it then.

Lots of NYCC Gotham Books Preview Art

The NYCC Batman panel ended a short time ago, and as one would expect, DC didn't exactly have anything new to announce, which is par for the course in regards to DC con panels. But, what they did have was a whole bunch of preview art from current and upcoming issues. So get a look at Batman kicking Apokolips ass, while things get creepy in Arkham Manor and Gotham by Midnight.

Looking Forward: October 15th, 2014

As you may have guessed from my post about the Batman/Superman #15 preview... Nope! Saving my $3.99, and I was done with Batwoman after the last arc too, so no more coverage on that either. Too many good Bat books to care about!
  • Batman and Robin #35: This is the story I was missing most last month. But now I just want it to be December already.
  • Batman Eternal #28: This issue has got "TURNING POINT" on the cover, so... maybe things will turn!?
I'll enjoy the short week along with the extra $7 in my pocket. Speaking of cash money, that whole support Gotham Spoilers thing by shopping at the online stores via the ads on the site! Yeah, that.

Batman #35 Preview

This isn't so much a preview as it is just a random assortment of pages provided without context to avoid spoilers. Everything looks super crazy, that's for sure.

Batman Beyond Saturdays, 10/04/2014

"All In" wraps up as Batman Beyond 2.0 heads towards its conclusion in November.

Stack Rundown, 10/04/2014

This was one of those weeks where I had a lot more books to read than I realized. Every time I finished one book, it seemed like I remembered that I had at least two more to read. It never ends!

Batman Eternal #27 Preview

Like I said in the post earlier today, seems like this issue, or maybe the next one, things probably aren't going to go well for Selina. We need to get that "left for dead" moment sooner than later.

(Source: Man Cave Daily)

Batgirl #35 Preview

Look! Preview! More or less the same pages from the leaked preview a week or so back. Maybe some dialogue has changed or something... I don't know, I don't read these, I just skim the pictures! I'll wait until I get the full issue in my hands.

(Source: AV Club)

Looking Forward: October 8th, 2014

Congratulations to Batman for actually sorta keeping what Endgame is under wraps the entire time between announcement and release. Usually, I'd feel like I've read the first few scripts via interview by now.
  • Batman #35: Endgame! Batman vs. the Justice League! Maybe?!
  • Batman Eternal #27: Betting things don't go well for Selina in this one.
  • Batgirl #35: The reaction to this one is going to be interesting. But hey, I'm excited.
So that's that, next week! Blah blah, support Gotham Spoilers by shopping through the banner links, you know the deal.
