SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #39

Riddler may have given the big bad away in this issue, in true Riddler fashion. Shouldn't come as a surprise if it is who I think it is, simply because at a point, logical process of elimination only points to like one guy who'd make any sense in the context of current continuity, barring someone who has never been used before, which is probably highly unlikely.

Stack Rundown, 12/27/2014

Last Stack Rundown of the year, because absolutely dick is coming out next week. I'm catching up on a few things in the absence of anything new, so maybe I'll have something to write up next Saturday or not. Who knows?!

SPOILERS: Robin Rises Alpha #1

Remember when last week's issue of Batman and Robin was super obvious with what was going to happen? Well... yeah, that, again... only two more dollars this time!

SPOILERS: Batman Annual #3

Joker would be that one friend who always shows up, but no one is quite sure who invited him in the first place while realizing no one really likes him to begin with, but won't say anything to him.

SPOILERS: Grayson Annual #1

Originally, we were supposed to get Helena Bertinelli's origin story, but things change, DC gave the writing team more room to tell their story apparently, so we got something different this time around.

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #38

Batman's got a lot on his hands, so I guess rounding up the usual suspects is priority number 1 for some reason.

SPIOLERS: Arkham Manor #3

For all those who are tired of Batman being Batgod and knowing everything all the time, well have I got a story for you, because man, Batman has got NO idea what's going on in the Manor on so many different levels.

SPOILERS: Gotham by Midnight #2

Whose ready for some holiday cheer? And what says "holiday cheer" like a comic with a bunch of people of the faith possessed by demons! Merry Christmas, everybody!

SPOILERS: Catwoman Annual #2

We get to know the new Catwoman on the block, the daughter of Gotham's Yakuza leader, Eiko Hasigawa.

SPOILERS: Harley Quinn #13

All good things must come to an end, but Harley makes sure to get the best of what she can from her Power Girl team up... and then tries to get some more...

Robin Rises: Alpha #1 Preview

(Source: USA Today)

Grayson Annual #1 Preview

Bonus Secret Origins #8 preview as well, which I'll skim through on Wednesday to see if there's anything worth posting about outside of "Yeah, it's Dick Grayson."

(Source: AV Club)

Arkham Manor #3 Preview

I'm interested to see what this book aims to accomplish being that we know it's pretty much just a mini series. Got to figure it's something more than "I don't know... Zsasz?"

Catwoman Annual #2 Preview

Eiko has been the element in the current Catwoman run that has sort have been a "what's the point?" with me. With three issues between now and the Convergence break, there just seems to be too much going on in order to deal with another woman taking up the mantle... again. Hopefully this Annual delivers a good reason for her to be around.

Stack Rundown, 12/20/2014

T'was the week before Christmas, and... Grant Morrison released two books to totally fuck your mind, broooooooo. That's how that one goes, right?

Harley Quinn #13 Preview

In my recent reviews of this book, I've noted subtle art changes from issue to issue (those of which Chad Hardin illustrates) and is it just me, or are we getting another one? Cheek bones don't seem to be as insanely emphasized in these few pages as they have been the last couple of issues. Alright by me.

(Source: Comic Book)

Batman Eternal #38 Preview

Man... still disappointed by the art in these two issues. Anyways, Willowood should be familiar... especially given it's connections to one of the only possible big bads that makes sense.

Batman Annual #3 Preview

So it seems like this is going to be on of those "The Joker drives a skeptic insane" sort of stories.

Gotham by Midnight #2 Preview

I'll probably say this in every preview/spoilers post for this book, but god damn, does Ben Templesmith's art fit this whole concept like a glove.

(Source: IGN)

Looking Forward: December 24th, 2014

Merry fucking Christmas, there's a lot of comics next week. Despite there being a fifth week, DC decided to put all the annuals out next week, so jeeeeeezus, so much.
  • Robin Rises Alpha #1: I'm still not sure how I feel about super powered Damian, but I guess we'll see, because it's happening next week.
  • Batman Annual #3: No idea what this one is gonna be like. I assume it may continue the story of the back-ups?
  • Grayson Annual #1: This was supposed to be super Helena Bertinelli but DC gave the writing team more space to tell the story, so this has apparently changed a bit.
  • Batman Eternal #38: Batman gonna find the bad guys? I dunno.
  • Harley Quinn #13: Harley and Power Girl's team up comes to a disastrous end.
  • Arkham Manor #3: Well, half way point of the series, I guess?
  • Gotham by Midnight #2: Some creepy nun in Slaughter Swamp... Look, I'll be honest, I'm writing how many books I've got to cover and just thinking "GOD DAMNIT," not trying in these blurbs.
  • Catwoman Annual #2: Good god, eight books? EIGHT BOOKS. Largest Gotham Spoilers week, ever.
Fuck you DC, fuck you. Eight books... UUUUUUUGH.

Look how much money I'm spending on comics next week, just for issues relevant to this site alone! You should support Gotham Spoilers by shopping at the links I've got in the banners.

Batman Eternal #41 Cover, SWEET FACE TIM.

Batman Eternal #41 cover right there, and Tim's getting high on that nanovirus. I got to say, even though I've sort of been bringing up this hanging plot thread with a degree of snark, with Endgame and Amazo Virus, I'm not sure I care about a third big virus story.

SPOILERS: Batman #37

Soooooooo, things get a bit fucked up this time around.

SPOILERS: Batman and Robin #37

I mean... do I really even have to tell you what happens in this issue? I mean, honestly?

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #37

SO, what's new in Batman Eternal this week? Villains? Check! Ghosts? Check! Other stuff?! Check!

SPOILERS: Catwoman #37

Selina's first big test as head of the underworld comes flying at her, courtesy of the Black Mask.

Batman Group March 2015 Solicitations

So, a few things to talk about this month. First off, this will be the last solicitations post, until March, because my thoughts on Convergence can be summed up as "screw that noise." Speaking of Convergence, as I expected, quite a number of books got cancelled. Now, before the freakouts start, this basically confirms DC's going to be doing The New 52 Phase 2 in June, with a ton of new books... maybe they'll finally even drop the New 52 name! Do the cancellations effect the Batman books? You bet they do! Say goodbye to Batwoman, which has been on all sorts of declines of late, and Arkham Manor will be riding into the sunset, as many cynics predicted, that was a very limited time concept.

No major creative shake-ups to take note of, there will be a Batman and Robin annual as well is a Batwoman annual to truly wrap up the seres, then of course we've got the End Game tie-ins, so while DC is taking a two month break, they're definitely going out with a bunch of Gotham books, that's for sure.

Solicits after the jump.

Batman and Robin #37 Preview

Man, thank god the conclusion of this story comes out next week. I don't think I could wait any longer.

Stack Rundown, 12/13/2014

In writing this post title, I laughed at 12, 13, 14! Oh, the joys that our European friends and their whole "list the day first" thing, will never be able to enjoy... Oh yeah, I'm apparently reading Spider-Man now, I dunno.

Rafael Albuquerque's Batman Annual #3 Cover

This one was originally solicited before we knew of the Joker's involvement in "Endgame," but now, cat's out of the bag, and would you look at that, it's the Joker!

Ivan Reis' Batman Eternal #40 Cover

Riddle me this, riddle me that, who's getting man-handled by the big black bat?

(Source: DC Comics)

No Endgame tie-ins? HAH! Think Again!

With "Endgame," I was actually pretty excited that there (at the time) wasn't going to be any tie-ins. The crossovers started to lose all importance by the third go of 'em, so the prospect of a contained story was nice...

Catwoman #37 Preview

I'm confused... I thought Selina was the one who sent her cousin to talk to the cop, thus whatever cat related note that one detective got last issue... I need to reread that issue I guess.

Batman Eternal #37 Preview

Despite my feelings on the slow pacing this book has been facing of late, I have generally enjoyed Tim Seeley's issues the most, so at least I've got that to look forward to.

Scott Snyder Reddit AMA Highlights

Last night, Batman writer Scott Snyder held yet another Reddit AMA, this time more DC focused. Amidst unanswered questions about the rumored The Dark Knight Returns 3 (because that TOTALLY would have been confirmed in a Reddit comment) he did give a few hints as to what's coming up in Gotham... next summer... thanks, Obama Convergence.

What was talked about? Well, first off all, go ahead and confirm Batman Eternal 2 again. Scott mentioned that year two would be pretty different in "story and scope." Given my recent feelings towards the series, hopefully the pacing and overly padded middle section will see a big overhaul.

Speaking of Batman Eternal, both Stephanie Brown and Harper Row will both be sticking around following the conclusion of the first year. Snyder points out that we should look towards June to see what he's talking about. What's so special about June? Well, it's the first post-Convergence month for DC, but it isn't Convergence which will prompt the big changes Snyder teased, instead it will be Endgame. Snyder mentions that Batman will have one "very big" change coming in June, with multiple smaller ones supporting it. I'll throw in a personal guess here: I bet DC is going to have a big New 52 rebranding in June. They've got to. They'd be stupid not to, honestly. That said, don't expect a total reboot like some seem to think is going to happen, and following up from Endgame is proof enough of that. Sorry, pre-New 52 ain't coming back.

As for some odds and ends, turns out Eric Border being the Joker was the plan from day one, and they actively didn't want to hint at it too much... I think they could have done it a little more without getting into the too obvious territory, but oh well, it was a good reveal nonetheless. Finally, Snyder has a Batman project lined up with artist Sean Murphy, which... Okay, I'm not going to flat out say it, because it's not my announcement to make, but it should be pretty damn obvious what that's going to be, it's just a matter of scheduling, especially for Murphy, whose going to be quite busy with his Mark Millar and Rick Remender Image projects.

That's about it for the big notes. Plenty of other stuff to read through including updates of American Vampire: Second Cycle's status and more. Worth the read, and didn't completely spoil anything... although I was skimming to make sure I read nothing specific about Endgame, hah.

(Source: Reddit)

Looking Forward: December 17th, 2014

These next two weeks are pretty stacked with Bat-goodness. Also, solicits. Last batch of regular books until Convergence is over.
  • Batman #37: We got the reveal last month, now its time for the "fun" to start.
  • Batman and Robin #37: Batman pulls a "GIVE ME BACK MY FAMILY" to Darkseid. I'm sure it'll work out well.
  • Batman Eternal #37: The new Catwoman makes her first appearance outside of Catwoman.
  • Catwoman #37: Speaking of Catwoman, this book is coming out next week, instead of the following one. I don't know why, but whatever, I'll take it!
Look at all those 37s... Banners, buy stuff at the stores, support Gotham Spoilers, blah blah blah.

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #36

So, now no one has any idea what's going on, no one except Riddler and... hey, look, Batgirl is in her new costume, isn't that neat?

SPOILERS: Batgirl #37

There's a new-new Batgirl in town and well... well, the masses don't react well to the reveal, which, shouldn't be surprising given you know... this.

SPOILERS: Harley Quinn Holiday Special #1

I'm pretty disappointed... given how this book has been going, I was expecting Santa to come to some sort of great bodily harm, but alas, no Santas were hurt in the production of this comic book.

Final Batman Eternal Solicitations

Final issues of Batman Eternal are on the horizon, four in March, and the final issue on April 1st. Cliff Chiang is on the covers, while Fernando Blanco, Alvaro Martinez, Paulo Siqueira and others are on art duties. Only one blurb of text was released for this set, so here you go:
This month in BATMAN ETERNAL: The epic Bat-story over a year in the making comes to a stunning end! Gotham City is in flames! Villains are running wild in the streets! Bat-tech has been corrupted! And the mastermind behind it all has put a knife in Batman’s ribs! How will the Dark Knight put an end to this nightmare…and how will it shape the face of Gotham City to come?

Looking Forward: December 10th, 2014

Christmas comes a bit early next week in the form of an oversized Harley Quinn special which I'm sure totally won't involve Santa coming to harm in any way... totally.
  • Batman Eternal #36: So Batman was an idiot and walked straight into a trap he knew was a trap... Who wants to bet he turns it all around this issue, because Batman.
  • Batgirl #37: BEDAZZLED BATGIRL.
  • Harley Quinn Holiday Special #1: I mean, who could think Santa could come to any bodily harm in a book like Harley Quinn? Just classless, I say!
Thanks to the people who did some Black Friday shopping through the Gotham Spoilers affiliate shops, cus I saw numbers go up on my account and thought "well that's just neat." You can still support the site in time for Christmas! ...or anytime, really. BUY SHIT!
