Deja Vu? Simone to Not Write Batgirl Zero Year

So, again, we know that many books both Batman and not-so-Batman related, will be taking part in the larger Zero Year story in some way, but we haven't gotten a whole lot of actual news on the tie-ins... until now, and it may not be good news to some.

I woke up today with a twitter message directing me to Gail Simone's tumblr, where she was asked if Batgirl would take part in Zero Year. It would... but she was told Friday that she wouldn't be writing it.

There you go. Given past Batgirl drama, I'm just going to leave that one there. Not going to say anything on this one... let's just all hope for the best, shall we?

  1. Cool artwork. Do you know what comic it's from?

  2. Interesting. This actually makes me more likely to pick it up rather than less. I've enjoyed a fair bit of Gail's work in the past but just do not like her Batgirl at all. I've now tried it and dropped it three different times.

I expect the Internet will disagree. Such is life.

  3. I tried embracing this new Batgirl on and off.
But she will never be as amazing as Barbara was when she was Oracle.
Gail Simone is a great writer who seems to be socially conscious, but they just need to find a new Batgirl and a new Robin. Let Barbara evolve into something more than the job she had as a teenager/young adult.

  4. I think the problem that readers (and even Gail Simone) are having is that Barbara has outgrown the Batgirl mantle. Putting Barbara back in Batgirl is like putting Dick back in the Robin costume. It makes no sense.

  5. Maybe they're just trying out a filler writer. They did that for Nightwing with DeFalco. Although it's weird they're doing it here since Zero Year was supposed to have been driven by the writers involved.
