Panels of the Week, 11/29/2012

Eh, I don't feel like writing any specific intro for the post this week, I mean... how many times can I say something different? Panels. That's it.

Batman: The Dark Knight #15 Page

David Finch just tweeted that he has official concluded his run on Batman: The Dark Knight, and with it, he posted another page from his final issue.

(Source: David Finch's Twitter)

SPOILERS: Legends of the Dark Knight #25-26

So, Batman and Scarecrow are at it again, but this time Scarecrow has a new fear toxin for Bruce, something that screws with his head like nothing before. Once Bruce wakes up, he finds himself in a wheelchair, his body old and broken, his mind shot, and Alfred tending to his health.

Talon #3 Art Preview and Interview

It seems DC has made a weekly occurence of having the various larger comic sites get interviews with creators, as well as showing off some art from an upcoming issue. This week, obviously, is James Tynion IV's turn, as we also get a look at some of Guillem March's page from the next issue.

Looking Forward: December 5th, 2012

Insert your usual post along the lines of "holy crap, it's December already?"
  • Detective Comics #15: Hey, this is a Death of the Family tie in... I forgot about that. I'm interested to see how much Joker is actually used in this, and him written by Layman.
  • Batwing #15: I'll say it now, this is probably the beginning of the end, with the "new team" taking over.
Panels, a Legends of the Dark Knight and Stack Rundown post all coming at their usual times, look for it.

SPOILERS: Batman Incorporated #5

In the aftermath of the massive Batman Inc vs. Leviathan brawl, Bruce tells Damian about the dream he saw, as we flash forward to the world of Batman #666, where Gotham is up in flames, and due to Joker's "last gag" most of the citizens, minus a small population of uninfected (ironically held up in Arkham) are raving, Jokerized fiends. Damian is on a mission to rescue an infant who seems to be immune to the Joker strain, believing it could possibly turn out to be a cure. Bad news is, the mob found his secret hide out, and he's forced to make a quick evacuation, and barely makes it to Arkham Asylum, where he meets up with a somewhat reluctant ally, Barbara Gordon.

SPOILERS: Talon #2

So there's this big hotel in Gotham, and surprise, surprise, the Court of Owls built, and maintains it. Cue Calvin Rose, who aims to infiltrate the most locked away chambers of the building in order to steal a few things his new partner Sebastian said would be there, mainly information on himself and the Washingtons (issue #0), the other stuff Calvin could pretty much care less about.

SPOILERS: Batman - The Dark Knight #14

Batman is free, and he's pissed. Going after Scarecrow, Bruce gets a scythe to the shoulder, but shoots his grappling gun through Crane's jaw, allowing himself enough time to escape. During their fight, a gas line, or something cracked open, so Crane pulls himself free, and begins to gather his things. As he's leaving, he hears the little girl he had abducted crying for help, and in an act of kindness, releases her, and carries her out before a sparking wire blows the place sky high.

Batman Incorporated #6 Variant Cover

Between some digital stuff, covers, and some fill in here and there, Juan Jose Ryp has been getting a bunch of DC work lately. Anyone know if he signed an exclusive or something? Just curious.

Talon #3 Variant Cover

Here's the first look at Andy Clarke's variant cover for the third issue of Talon.

Talon #2 Preview

You know how in King of the Hill, whenever Hank sees something that disturbs him, he goes: "Bwuaaaaah!" Yeah, that's what I did when I saw this wasn't Guillem March.

Batman Incorporated #5 Preview

God damn, I've been waiting for this one issue for what feels like an eternity. And look at that, one way or another, Babs ends up back in the chair... I'm looking forward to reading one particular forum poster's reactions to that, just for the lulz.

Stack Rundown, 11/24/2012

Slim week for this post, as most of the titles I read were Gotham related, and a lot of my standard Image titles seem to be on some pretty loose shipping schedules. Nevertheless, let's do this.

Batman: The Dark Knight #14 Preview

Man! This preview is BRUTAL. What's the movie I'm thinking of where someone gets impaled through the bottom of their chin? Hot Fuzz! That's it... that movie is "eh." What was I talking about again?

Panels of the Week, 11/22/2012

THANKSGIVING DON'T STOP ME! Time to look at some motherfucking comic art! YEEEEEAH.

Batman: The Dark Knight Art Teaser

David Finch posted another page from an upcoming issue of The Dark Knight, claiming he just noticed an artist error... Yeah, the fact that Alfred is there!

(No, but really, it's Robin's R symbol being on the wrong side)

(Source: David Finch's Twitter)

Looking Forward: November 28th, 2012

Next week is going to be a good week, I'll tell you that. No Joker, but we do get some 666 action!
  • Batman Incorporated #5: We take an interlude of sorts to revisit the world of Batman #666, where Damian is Batman, and the world has gone to shit, aka, what Bruce Wayne is trying to avoid with Batman Inc.
  • Talon #2: By the cover, it looks as if Calvin's fight agains the Court has gone from "Yeah! Let's do this!" to "Shit!" really quickly.
  • Batman - The Dark Knight #14: David Finch's penultimate issue on the title, and the issue where Batman starts to fight back against the Scarecrow!
Alright, wrap this up quickly... Panels of the Week coming and yeah, that's it. Happy thanksgiving.

SPOILERS: Catwoman #14

Honestly? This is a pretty interesting issue to write up. It's not formatted in such where the action in the scenes are are what really drive the story (thus things I can easily describe), what's being said is way more important, and that's the kind of stuff that really becomes a problem in these write ups, as those sort of details are better just read. So, with that in mind, I'm going to ditch my usual formula, and just sort of talk about the issue in an extended review of sorts.

SPOILERS: Nightwing #14

So, lots of stuff on Dick Grayson's plate, Joker is back and Shiva is in town, and seeing as no one is dealing with her, he decides to look into it, while juggling his personal life with the circus and Sonia Zucco during the day, including telling a young acrobat that she'll be safe at the circus, despite the old acrobat being in jail (Raya).

SPOILERS: Red Hood and the Outlaws #14

So, Jason and the Outlaws are headed back to Earth on Starfire's ship, and all the sudden, there's a knock from outside and it's Superman. The three collectively decide "yo, fuck that guy" and decide to ignore him. When he doesn't go away, they just decide to teleport off the ship to Starfire's island, but Jaosn knows better, and sure enough, Superman is not far behind.

SPOILERS: Birds of Prey #14

The mysterious man known only as Condor spies another pair of Dagger Clan ninja's transporting a crate, and deciding he wants to hijack them again, he goes in for an attack, to find only a couple of flash bangs inside the crate. When he regains his senses, he finds the Birds waiting for him, and Katana wants her sword back in a bad way.

SPOILERS: Batwoman #14

Having come across Pegasus, it becomes very clear to Kate and Diana that he's seen better days. Looking over Pegasus' wounds, Kate can figure out just what Falchion had done with him. When Kate asks Pegasus where his mother, Medusa is, he tells her that he'll reveal it, but it'll cost something, only Diana can give him, a warriors death. Pleading to be put out of his misery, Pegasus begs Diana to cut his head off. In a decision that make Kate a bit uneasy, Diana agrees to the deal, as Pegasus reveals that Medusa is hiding in a city known as "The Dark Heart of the World." Diana isn't in the mood for riddles, but Pegasus tells her that Kate will know. "Dammit... Gotham."

Batgirl, by way of Teen Titans

I don't care what anyone says, Brett Booth and company do some mean renditions of the Batfam. Case and point, this spread of Batgirl, appearing in Teen Titans #15.

Also, bonus Joker:

I've got a baaaad feeling about this... but the question is, in what context am I speaking?

Stack Rundown, 11/17/2012

Where I didn't have any independent books to talk about last week, this week, all but two were either from Image or Vertigo. Spoiler alert, I get to use the term "festering ball sack" in this post... there's a first time for everything!

Batman #16 Art Dump

It's about that time again, where I amass all the various art teasers Greg Capullo has posted through out the month, this time from Batman #16. We get the first look at Capullo's rendition of a villain we'll probably be seeing more of, and Bat-Cow's arch nemisis, Bat-Horse!

Hit the jump for all the art.

Batwoman #14 Preview

Seeing such beautiful JH Williams III art in such a compressed, low quality format should be considered a sin.

Batman: The Dark Knight Art Teaser

David Finch recently joined twitter, and with it, he brought a sneak peak of one of the last two issues of Batman: The Dark Knight he'll be illustrating.

HEY ALFRED! What the hell are you doing there?!

Birds of Prey #14 Preview

Hmm, another surprise Trevor McCarthy cover, can't complain about that. Also... why has no one told the colorist he's coloring Batgirl incorrectly!? She doesn't have all those yellow linings! This is getting ridiculous.

NIghtwing #14 Preview

...Nothing about this looks good.

(Source: Comicvine)

Red Hood and the Outlaws #14 Preview

Okay, the fact that these three are just trying to ignore Superman is pretty damn funny.

Who's that at the Thanksgiving table?

Batman: Li'l Gotham #2 is out today, and it ends on a big family dinner for the whole Bat-Clan, plus some extended members. Starting from the bottom left we've got Damian, Colin (Abuse), Bruce, Selina, Tim, Alfred, Dick, Jason, Babs, and... WAIT, who is that last one? Well... I'll give you some hints.
  1. She's of Asian descent
  2. She's a woman of few words
  3. She once lead the outsiders
Have you figured it out yet? No?! Well hit the jump to find out!

Panels of the Week, 11/15/2012

Good thing Li'l Gotham came out this week, because we need something to balance out all the decomposing faces strapped to people's heads.

SPOILERS: Legends of the Dark Knight #23-24

So, the basic summary of this story is as followed: There have been vicious animal attacks through out Gotham. Clues at the scene have traces of numerous different types of animals. Because Batman knows all, he decides to investigate a reported theft from a taxidermy collector, who has many animals that have been stitched together with another. This leads Batman to investigate the man who created these creatures.

Batman #15 Art Preview

Comicvine has an interview with Batman artist Greg Capullo, and along with it, a couple of unlettered pages from Batman #15, featuring the whole family.

(Source: Comicvine)

Looking Forward: November 21st, 2012

Only a single issue of "Death of the Family" next week, and that's sad.
  • Nightwing #14: The finale of this Shiva arc... I don't know, whatever.
  • Birds of Prey #14: As Katana's days on the team dwindle, the Birds fight some crazy ass ninjas in Japan. Hopefully Batgirl's costume is colored correctly this time!
  • Catwoman #14: Joker has done some pretty fucked up shit so far, so what's he going to do to Selina?
  • Batwoman #14: Batwoman and Wonder Woman's odyssey to find Medusa continues!
  • Red Hood and the Outlaws #14: Superman? Sure, why not?
So, I got some feed back when I said I was done doing write ups of Legends of the Dark Knight, so I decided to go back on that, a bit. I'll do posts about stories once they're completed, instead of weekly posts on each individual digital chapter. Fair compromise? Cool. Anyways, that, and my top panels pick are coming up, with more Li'l Gotham this week.

SPOILERS: Batman #14

As Batman yells at Harley, demanding to know where Joker is, she leaves him to drown in the chemicals that made Joker who he is. Putting his respirator on, Bruce manages to escape the chemical vat just in time, before it at through his suit. Heading back to the cave, he alerts all his allies that Joker may individually target them, then heads up stairs to speak with Alfred. Not getting any response, Bruce begins to search for him, and all he finds is a small little present, wrapped in purple and green.

SPOILERS: Batgirl #14

Picking up where we left off, Babs is left screaming for her mother on the phone. While she tries to calm herself down, in order to think straight, she gets a call from someone who she soon believes to be the Joker, who tells her to make a sandwich! That'll calm her down... oh, and the men who took her mother are coming for her too, BYE!

SPOILERS: Suicide Squad #14

At Deadshot's funeral (he shot himself through the chest, to shoot Regulus last issue), Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, and Amanda Waller, all stand at attention, as Deadshot receives his military style service... until the rain starts... green rain, knocking out all those at the funeral, except Harley, who seems to have an immunity to it. Whatever could that mean? Oh wait, I know! Puddin' is home!

SPOILERS: Batman and Robin #14

A fancy Gotham dinner gets crashed by a hoard of these "Eat to live!" zombie sort of people... are they really zombies? I don't really know... regardless, Batman shows up as well in an attempt to stop the attack, because that's what he does... Batman stuff. He then tries to radio Damian to find out where he is, but gets no response from his son, who is playing knocked out, in order to be lead to the base of these Saturn cultists.

Suicide Squad #14 Preview

As I've mentioned a few time, due to obvious reasons, I'll be giving the next two issues of Suicide Squad the full treatment on the site.

Batman Group February 2013 Solicitations

Hey look! all those covers I had already leaked!

Creative changes of note are pretty slim, Juan Jose Ryp is drawing Nightwing, and other than the Batwing changes already announced, pretty standard stuff.

Batman and Robin #14 Preview

So, Catwoman #13 gets the die-cut cover, but this one doesn't? Also, blah... fill in.

Batgirl #14 Preview

Weird preview, I've got to think something else is going on in this scene. I don't know, whatever... sure.  I'm at work right now, so my mind is elsewhere.

Happy Saturday, here's February's Bat Covers

WHAT TIME IS IT?! Adventure Time Advanced cover time! Thanks to the twitter followers who alerted me to more than I thought being up. Didn't work in Chrome, but worked in Safari... weird stuff. Anyways, all of the covered titles, minus Batwing found it and Batman, Incorporated.
