SPOILERS: Batman #26

There's going to be a lot of dead bodies after this story arc, that's for damn sure.

The Spoilers:

Having survived Joker's attack, Riddler leaves his blunt message for the man who seemingly no longer laughs, "I'm going to kill you, then laugh about it" is the gist of it. So what does Joker do? Gives Carmine Falcone one hour to kill Riddler.

Falcone's men don't get the job done, as Riddler had already allied himself with Poison Ivy, so when Falcone returns to his home, he finds Joker waiting for him, with the teeth of his mother laid out in a smile. Joker takes over Falcone's operations by force and appoints Penguin (who does the math involving Falcone's mother living three hours away) as his right hand man.

And so begins the all out war as the bodies line up. Ivy, Zsasz, Scarecrow, Two Face, Killer Croc, Clayface, Deathstroke, and Firefly on the Riddler's side, with Cluemaster, Man-Bat, Deadshot, Ventriloquist, Mad Hatter, Grundy, the Tweedes, and Mr. Freeze on Joker's. With Batman in the middle... just telling Selina that he was taking names and was called a superhero, being vague as shit.

The Opinion:

I don't know why, but I like the fact that for some reason, this all takes place in the day. I also get sort of No Man's Land-like vibes with all the villains taking sides. Everything building up between the Riddler and Joker is pretty cool, just Bruce's vagueness in his narration is already a little "okay dude, c'mon... say something that means something already." Like it just ends on "People called me a lot of things, Dark Knight, caped crusader, etc... I was a superhero!" OKAY!? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  1. Pretty sure the point was that while Batman was gaining monikers, he was really keeping track of the names of the people killed in this war, feeling hopeless despite how highly people were thinking of him.

Also, that bit with Joker having Falcone's mother's teeth... yikes.
