Welcome to Stack Highlights, it's like Stack Rundown but with a fraction of the effort!
And the mother of year award goes to... literally anyone but Lady Shiva
Lots of style, just need a little more easily discernible substance for my tastes.
I'm not sure exactly why most of this issue happens, but it sure is cool.

Wrestling is on, and I'd rather not give it my full attention, because you know, it's totally dumb, so how about some blogging? SDCC is right around the corner, and for once, it's before October's solicitations are released, which means DC might actually have something to announce this year. We also know that something is coming from DC in October, so the forecast of announcements looks good. Safe bets are that Dark Universe and Mystic U will be released in October, but what about Gotham? Well that's what I'm here for! Time for some speculation!
Still don't know if I'm going to read this or not... I mean, what is this even supposed to be? It's a Harvey Bullock book right? Then why the hell did they open these last two issues with Jim POV? I don't know. I keep seeing praise for this book, but I just don't get it.

At this point, I think it'd be best if I just take my Marvel fandom, bring it around back behind the shed, and do what needs to be done. I'm down to one book with them, which is a comedy book, and not one announcement they had all week was interesting to me in anyway... It's not looking good for me and post-Secret Wars Marvel.

I don't know... Maybe I'll pick up this book, maybe I won't.
- Detective Comics #42: I don't think this creative team has been particularly good on the writing front, so Iiiiiiii don't know.

When something's strange, in the neighborhood, who ya gonna call? Well, not the Ghost Busters, because their comic rights are licensed to IDW, which is not DC, thus not this book. LEGAL STUFF.

Took you long enough, Washington Post. Not a whole lot to go off of the preview pages themselves, but hey, I guess that's what the interview is for. Still kind of skeptical about this book, but hope it turns out well.
EDIT: CBR has an expanded preview.

As much as I liked Templesmith's art on this title, I think some more detailed (compared to abstract, I guess... suck at describing things) art will maybe help me fully get behind this book, which I've still yet to do, unfortunately.

Yeah, I think moving this post to Sundays is going to be a permanent thing from here on out, just too little time for me to read everything and have a post on Saturday morning without it feeling like work. So, I hope you like checking the internet on Sunday, or whatever.

Interesting to see the use of a background artist and new colorist, now that Cameron Stewart is occupied with the art on Fight Club 2. Curious to see how the rest of the book will look from a comparative standpoint.

Closing out the month with some dick! I mean, Dick! Capitalization is important, boys and girls.
- Grayson #9: DC are monsters for making us wait until the end of the month for this book's return.
- Batgirl #41: Generally curious to see whether or not GorBat has any idea who Batgirl is.
- We Are Robin #1: Really hope this one is good, not sure why, but I really want it to be.
- Gotham by Midnight #6: This book remains on perpetually shaky ground with me, and I'd like it to step up, because it's a cool concept, just hasn't done a lot for me to really like it.
ALSO LOOK AT THOSE BANNERS CLICK ON THEM THEN BUY STUFF SO YOU ARE COOL AND SUPPORT GOTHAM SPOILERS BECAUSE COOL PEOPLE DO THAT AS WELL AS TYPE IN ALL CAPS.

Remember that video of Glenn Danzig pushing some dude from some band, then getting knocked the fuck out? That's pretty much what Black Canary is... but if Danzig won... and punched everyone... at every show... and that's pretty, pretty cool.

So we're back to Monday? Or maybe it's just because Bleeding Cool leaked the text. Not complaining.
Interesting month, there are a number of either fill-in artists or others joining in what I guess will be an artistic rotation. Maaaaaybe DC is making sure many of the art teams are rested and able to deliver for whatever October is? We got Jock on Batman, Pia Guerra on Black Canary and John Timms on Harley. Also, it doesn't seem like Manapul is even credited for co-writing Detective.
September is also annual month, and in terms of Bat books, both Batman and Grayson will be getting new annual issues.

Multiple times yesterday I was all "I should write that post," but I was also playing the Witcher 3, which I've dumped nearly every free hour I've had into every night since it came out, and while doing so, had purposely avoided Skellige, knowing that I had too much to do on the main continent... Then yesterday I figured I'd go see what Yen was doing, and hooooooooly crap, there's so much more to do.
Oh yeah, comics!

I read this issue, it's pretty rad, so you should probably read this issue too come Wednesday, because you're going to think it's pretty rad, and if you don't, then you're pretty not rad.
Thems is facts.

Not going to lie, it feels good to be back in the normal flow of the weekly website routine, despite having a distinct lack of free time compared to March. Just wish these books were spaced out a little better throughout the month.
- Robin: Son of Batman #1: I've been saying Damian should have his own series for years now, and it's finally happening. I liked what I read in that 8 page story, but I've still got a lot of question marks in terms of Patrick Gleason the writer, so hopefully they're answered pleasantly.
- Black Canary #1: Okay, this one is staying a little far out of Gotham, but who cares? Spinning out of Batgirl and having Annie Wu on art is enough for me to justify coverage of this book.
- Harley Quinn/Power Girl #1: Honestly, I'm sure this book will be great and all, but I want a dedicated Harley/Ivy series... I guess Vartox is piercing his nipples at some point? Mmm... gross.

More Twitter/Instagram news gathering for me! Patrick Gleason posted an instagram shot of his Detective Comics #41 variant comps, and as suspected, Fernando Blanco drew the issue, and will be drawing the rest of the arc. So, we've got that fact along with a "curtain call" from Manapul, and I'm feeling pretty confident in saying that we're getting a new Detective Comics team.
And of course immediately after posting this, I see that Dan Didio confirmed something is coming in October. Sounds like it's going to be an interesting SDCC.
