Batman Eternal #51 Preview

I could go off on a number of different things in this preview, but given that I'm stupidly holding out hope that this wasn't the final twist and some sort of positive story angle can be salvaged from this, I'll hold out until Wednesday.

That said, I do need to have a release, so I'll focus on a minor thing (that contributes to the sense of "really? that fucking guy?") "My associates are blocking the entry, HAHAHA, good luck!" Okay motherfucker, 1. Like anyone is coming anyways 2. It's fucking Signalman and Ratcatcher. Jim Gordon could probably walk right up to them and hit 'em in the back of the knee with his nightstick. I mean, Lockup?

None of this is earned, they've earned nothing, you hear me!?

Shhhhh, shhh, shh.... Wednesday. Wednesday.

  1. How it is possible he finds out who Batman is just after unmasking him... he was to Batcave. He heard Hush talking to Alfred about Bruce. What a hell: "Bruce Wayne is Batman, this certainly explains a few things"?

    1. Yeah, you are right, so this is proof that Cluemaster is not the guy behind it all. It was another person who was with Hush in the Bat-Cave, a “friend of the family” as Hush calls him.

  2. Maybe he has another persona that takes over to do all the plotting like fight club or maybe this is the writers last ditch attempt to misdirect us to look clever

  3. Answering one question to obscure another is some classic misdirection. We're busy asking "wait, then how did he do it?" instead of "yeah, but who is the other guy?"

  4. Sorry to burst your bubble, Arthur, but... well, Riddler kind of DID get him to that point in Zero Year, and mostly by himself.

  5. Wait, hasn't it been established that the Party Planner knows Bruce's identity already? But yeah, even if it turns out that Cluemaster's not just a patsy, he's still got a partner who spoke over the loudspeaker in #40.

  7. The reveal of Cluemaster WAS foreshadowed, when you think about it. Stephanie kept talking about the bad guy being overlooked.

    1. Then why wouldn't she just say "My dad is behind it."

Are we all forgetting she's running around saying Bruce Wayne is behind everything? She knows what her dad is up to, she overhead the plan in the very beginning of the series, straight from her father's mouth, and she's still claiming Bruce Wayne is behind it, meaning someone is above her father.

It's either that, or the story is truly terrible and all of that means nothing, or it's some weak ass bullshit like "It was Clayface" which is just a cheap out, insulting to the readers.

    2. Yeah, if it was just Clayface, then this book was pretty much a waste. What's he going to say, he had Clayface disguised as Bruce Wayne to fool HIMSELF?

Unfortunately, outside of that two-parter before Zero Year, Basil doesn't have the gravity as a character to be involved in anything this big.

    3. Except that Stephanie seems to have figured more out since her 'Bruce Wayne reveal.' Or is Cluemaster just impressed with her figuring out exactly what she saw and heard and not anything she had to think through for herself? Why say that 'seeing patterns' is natural to her when all she's done is say what happened at that first meeting?

  8. agreed.... if cluemaster is the big bad, and didn't know bruce wayne was batman....why the hell would he have a bruce wayne double (clayface or not) involved in the plot????

    1. To get an easier access to Wayne Inc. Hell, there is so much to explain, I hope they at least won't leave plotholes, unexplained stuff... like this one with Bruce Wayne and Batcave infiltration.

  9. Lincoln March. He's a "family friend" he looks like Bruce, maybe that's who Stephine thinks Bruce Wanye is.

  10. I'm afraid Cluemaster probably is the Big Bad of Batman Eternal...Year One. Lincoln will be the last-page reveal of #52 and will be the antagonist of Year Two...I hope I'm not right.

  11. I think this is where Steph should come and see the alleged head of her father, Bruce Wayne.

She must see this, she helped the Batman family in Detective Comics Endgame
