Didn't take long for the League of Shadows to just start wrecking shit.

As crazy and ridiculous as this series has been, I really hope it pulls together to have a good ending, because it's on a thin line of being stupidly awesome or stupidly stupid.

So, with Batman #28 right around the corner, and Eternal on its tail, I'd expect some shit is going to go down pretty soon, and the early Batman #28 preview supports that theory.
Remember that character design we got with news of the change to #28? I mean... it clearly was of Harper, well... maybe there will be a curveball, but c'mon, how many other people have that haircut? ...which will take some serious suspension of disbelief if she is to start crime fighting with a secret identity, but that's another subject for another day. Regardless, our look at civilian Harper in #28 definitely puts some backing behind this "mysterious" character actually being Harper.
Notice the way Nguyen draws Harpers hair (albeit, the design and final product are conflicting in the bald/buzzed head), the similar back packs, and the exact same design on the backpack straps. Uh-huh.
So yeah, if there was any doubt left, there probably shouldn't be anymore. Only question is what Harper will be calling herself. Lots of people thing Nightwing for obvious reasons, but I'm not entirely convinced. Part of me thinks that just doesn't feel right, plus, I wouldn't put too much thought behind coloring as a reason... remember when people thought Nightwing was Jason Todd when the New 52 was leaked, just because the use of the color red? Just saying.
All that said... it's going to be kind of hard for Dick Grayson to continue being Nightwing. Maybe all will be revealed in two weeks, maybe we'll even get solicitations around that time as well, and find out even more. We'll have to wait and see until then.
Man, it's late... I have another post to schedule and some images to edit, I want to go to bed... Figure out your own pre-jump blurb. I'm OUT.
Goodbye January, hello February... now begins the wait for May solicits to see what's up with Nightwing! No Batman/Superman next week... or that annual as well, both got pushed to the 26th.
- Detective Comics #28: The midway point of Gothtopia, Layman's final arc on Detective, and Batman's gone crazy... according to Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze, Harley Quinn, Pyg and The Merrymaker.
- Batwing #28: That guy from Zero Year is back, and Luke's sister is missing!
- Forever Evil - Arkham War #5: Talons, venom, and all sorts of other ridiculousness will go down, as this series reaches its penultimate issue.
That Joker's Daughter one shot comes out next week as well. I won't be covering it, but given that she who must not be named isn't writing it, I might check it out, giving Marguerite Bennett the benefit of the doubt, and to see how Nightwing #30 might look... But I really just fundamentally don't care about the character.

Until next week!
Despite the misleading header image, I do actually mean the separate Nightwing and Batgirl issues that come out the week after next.
Anyways! That Batman #28 preview got me thinking, and I decided to check to see if I could find anymore previews, and sure enough, here are the rest of that week's early previews. Interesting note, Batman/Superman, Batman/Superman Annual and Worlds' Finest were no where to be found. Batman/Superman and it's annual was already pushed back to that second week in February, but now, those previews are M.I.A., so I'm guessing they're pushed back yet again, and due to the crossover, they're taking Worlds' Finest with them.
EDIT: Annnnnnnd they were pushed back to the final week in February...
Me thinks scheduling Jae Lee to draw the annual and first issue of that crossover was a bad idea, from a production schedule's standpoint. Whatever, we'll see with the updated shipping lists in a day or two. Hit the jump for those previews.

DC has gotten into the pre-ordering digital comics game… which is something I'll never understand, but regardless, it means early previews for a few books, most notably Batman #28. What hints do we get in this preview? Well, Harper Row is victim to Gotham's new curfew… WHAT DOES IT MEAN!? (h/t to @mtonks)
Hit the jump for the rest of the pages.
Pre-Damain's death, Dick spends time with him, telling him a story about when he first became Robin, as Damian was complaining a bit about his father. Issue is, Damian didn't ask for story time with Dick Grayson, and reminds his mentor of one key difference between them, Dick may have been the first, but Damian perfected being Robin (hell yeah, he did.)
So this is the story of a boy named Jonas, who would become the Talon that replaced William Cobb, and he got super into it. Here's the thing, the issue is told in reverse, and because that's a total pain in the ass for me to put down into words, I'm going to do this spoiler post in reverse of what actually happens in the issue, but chronologically forward.
So Batman is all trapped, but then there's a whip on top his cage... for some reason, so he uses that to grab a car jack, bend the bars of his cage, get out, and bring hell to his captors.
So Damian is fighting Not-Joker, while still trying to remain true to his father's wishes and not killing anyone, no matter how close he comes to pulling that metaphorical trigger... then he finally gets to Not-Joker, who reminds him of the standard trope of Joker always comes back because Batman never has the guts... So Batman rips out Not-Joker's guts, code be damned! Remember that time he did that to Michael Lane? Pretty much the same thing. Damian apologizes to his father, picks him up, and then leaves.
So uuuuh... Yeah! Remember that time DC's Twitter account totally spoiled the identity of Earth 2's Batman, and didn't do anything to rectify the situation, like delete the tweet and pretend it never happened... Then when the toy solicits came out, the spoiler was still there, and it just got real sad when people kept pretending it was still a mystery.
But then, for some reason, people still pretended like it was a mystery, and had their own theories that it wasn't the guy who it is... So I guess I have to do a "spoiler" warning on this one? The spoilers are really more of the "how" at this point, but whatever.

Well, this will be the final issue... and unless some serious magic went into this particular release, I'm not expecting I'll like it all too much. Disappointing.

Don't know if this is from a cover or interiors for Detective, but either way, I'm getting more and more used to the idea of Manapul drawing Batman for a good while.
Between guys like Greg Capullo, Jason Fabok and Pat Gleason, adding Francis Manapul to the mix will mean another dose of variety for Batman. Yeah, he's got a lot of books, but man, do they look good.
(Source: Francis Manapul's Twitter)
Newsarama has broken the news that Kyle Higgins has joined the Batman: Eternal writing team... hey, wait a minute...
Apparently, "The news first leaked on twitter" with that tweet from Mike Marts about eating a steak dinner... Uh-huh. No, that wasn't a leak, that was just a tweet about some mighty fine looking beef. SOMEONE did the math though. Who is this SOMEONE? Well, I'd imagine this SOMEONE listened when they said to pay attention to context clues during the SAT reading and writing sections. But safe to say, this SOMEONE got no credit for figuring it out.
So, excuse me while I say "hi" to Newsarama! They're clearly are a fan of the site, so I know they're reading, and I'd like to say that Batman would be disappointed in them.
^ You're welcome, guys.
Jorge Lucas is another guy I wouldn't be surprised to see on Eternal. The Bat Office seems to dig him of late. Anyways! The fall of William Cobb! The website posted incorrect image links... somehow, but you'll notice that the word "talon" is misspelt in each broken link's url, which makes me think some maniac is manually typing out URLs.
(Source: Ain't it Cool News)
I think it's pretty clear it's going to be Thomas Wayne now, the only question is how. Also, I won't be doing a full post about this, because honestly, I don't want the extra work, but I will have something detailing the Earth 2 Batman's origin specifics.
Thursday, January 23, 2014
The Batman: Eternal creative team! We know it… Sort of! There's Scott Snyder, James Tynion, Tim Seeley, Ray Fawkes and
GOTHAM SPOILERS SPECULATION, ON THE CASE! …Hey man, I was the one who figure out Tim Seeley was working on
I also did say I wanted to see Dustin Nguyen draw Eternal, so I'M PRETTY LEGIT.
Annual week, coming up! Only one though, Batman/Superman got pushed back a week.
- Batman and Robin Annual #2: There's a flashback to Damian prior to this tale of Dick Grayson as Robin, so there's that! (Bring him back, DC!)
- Damian - Son of Batman #4: Well... it's over, at least.
- Batman - The Dark Knight #27: SILENCE!
- Talon #15: A special issue where we meet the Talon who replaced William Cobb.
The second Earth 2 Annual comes out next week as well, which will probably lead to a post about that Batman's origins... Pretty sure we know who (unless DC changed it post-leak) but the question is "how?"
And here comes the end of the post? What does that mean? OH YEAH! You're weekly reminder to support Gotham Spoilers by buying any graphic novels, merch or other comic related stuff at my TFAW.com affiliate links to the side and bottom of the page. Don't see them? Well, turn off that ad blocker, I'm not spying on you, promise...

Tokyo, 1946, probably Doctor Death watching lounge singer during the war, I don't know! Moving on! Batman is getting shot at, and the GCPD knows his every move and tactic. Clearly, Bruce was set up, and his usual tricks of smoke bombs, grappling away, or escape vehicles have all been anticipated by the GCPD, so he has to get creative, and uses a gas canister to propel himself through the water, and into the bay, where James Gordon waits for him...
Two-Face wants Erin McKillen dead, that's for sure, but first, he wants Erin to apologize to the grave of his wife, Gilda... something Erin sarcastically does, which doesn't please Harvey. The coin is flipped, heads, Erin burns, tails she dies... aaaaand HEADS! Harvey is all set up with some acid, ready to inflict the same pain on Erin, as she did to him, but then the rest of the McKillen family show up, firing a shot through Harvey and the acid (some of which gets on Erin's face).
In Harley's new apartment complex, there's a wax museum dedicated to some of the most notorious killers known to man... so of course the Joker is in there, and of course Harley gives it some PDA that'd make Miley Cyrus blush. Harley meets Madame Macabre, the managers of the museum, who politely asks Harley to stop humping her figures. Harley then introduces herself as the new landlord, and asks if Macabre knows anywhere she can get a fridge... preferably a big one, the size a body can fit into.
You know what's probably a bad combination? Falling to your death and tripping balls all at the same time, ask Batwoman! Because that's what's happening, as she's gotten the a swift kick out a window, along with some heavy drugs via Wolf Spider.
Info dump time! So why did Jason have to get his memories dumped? Because Ducra knew Ra's plans to take over the Untitled and attempt to become a living god, and Jason is THE ONE, so yeah, all that. Only problem is, Jason has a bunch of fears, anxieties, and personal ties to people which could have clouded his judgement, so it was important he be free and clear of those to face Ra's, and if his memories returned too early, he may be able to defeat Ra's, but he'd fall in the process.

Well, well, well... This one should be fun!
Not a whole lot of changes to note, as I've made posts about many of them, or they were already known. Yes, Nightwing is cancelled. Is Dick Grayson dead? Maybe! Am I going to beat that horse to death until we learn otherwise? You bet! Hit the jump for the full solicits.
We knew Kyle Higgins would be off the title, but it doesn't end there, Nightwing is CANCELLED. James Tyinon will write the final issue (and probably launch whatever replaces it) while it will be illustrated by Meghan Hetrick, who is the artist on the Joker's Daughter one shot.
Here's the solicit:
Written by JAMES TYNION IV
Art by MEGHAN HETRICK
Cover by EDDY BARROWS
1:25 MAD Variant cover
On sale APRIL 9 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T • FINAL ISSUE
The Bat Family is forced to face the brutal aftermath of FOREVER EVIL, but after everything they’ve been through, can they stand together?

And here's the Harley Quinn preview from iBooks, I'll probably post the real one once it pops up too. I have to say though, I like Stephane Roux, real good artist, but if there's fill in art already... that's concerning. We're only on issue #2!
EDIT: But then this was pointed out to me...
Well, huh... never mind I guess? Weird!
Here's the second page!
I had forgotten about what a weird recourse iBooks is for DC previews, but here's a pretty early look at next week's Batman: The Dark Knight, Talon, Batman and Robin Annual, Damian: Son of Batman, as well as the Earth 2 Annual for good measure.
Hit the jump for all the images, then go to the iBooks pages and see some more pages in some cases, weird!

The two men being held hostage by Man-Bat are, well... still hostages. The woman who has been seen with Langstrom recently comes in to give them their food, and as she does, one of them recognizes her. Apparently, her name is Tey, and she was kidnapped a couple of years ago; big story, all over the news. The two men plead to know why she's doing this, but turns out Tey isn't much of a victim anymore, because she wants this.

|Note: This is from a Streets of Gotham cover, not Eternal|
The Batman: Eternal solicits have been released, and we've learned two things. First, the price is $2.99, which is great news, because the way things have been going, I was expecting a $3.99 weekly, because why not? Second, we finally learn who else is illustrating the title next to Jason Fabok, and it's none other than Dustin Nguyen! Safe to say, this pleases me:
I'll gladly take some Dustin Nguyen drawing Batman: Eternal since Li'l Gotham is ending.
— FHIZ (@gothamspoilers) November 24, 2013
Yep! Great news, about time Nguyen came back to Gotham proper.
We learn a few other things in the solicits, like Jim Gordon getting on the wrong side of the law, Stephanie Brown debuts in issue #3, and a villain makes their New 52 debut in issue #2. I'm guessing that could be Hush, but it could also be Carmine Falcone, given the mention of gang wars in Gotham. Maybe it's someone else, who knows, I'm just going on those hints from the Thanksgiving teaser.
We got some sneak peeks at this image before, but here's the final cover, and it is a beauty. As great as this looks, I'm still really unsure, albeit very interested, how Manapul's style is going to translate over to the world of Batman.
(Source: Francis Manapul's Website)
Well, the writing has been on the wall for awhile, but Kyle Higgins confirmed two things with a post on Facebook today. The first, Nightwing #29 is his last issue, and a new creative team will be announced with April solicitations. Second, solicitations are coming Tuesday because DC wants to be extra fucking late for some reason, but that's not the point of this post.
Look, we all knew something was up with Dick Grayson, he could be dying, or he could be just dyeing his hair (hah). Who knows? But it was clear, that the latest Chicago direction for the character was being thrown out the window... like all the previous directions that Higgins had attempted to establish for the character. I've made it a point to acknowledge the fact that Nightwing has been jerked around in the New 52, never allowed to get his footing with any one creative direction, so I don't need to reiterate it again here. I'll just leave it at this: I find it really unfortunate that despite 28 issues (29 + Zero issue - DeFalco issues = Math is right, trust me), that Higgins was never really able to fully deliver on the various directions he had planned out for the character. You know what would have been cool? To see Dick as the owner of a circus in Gotham, or maybe to see him really establish himself in Chicago. But, we're not getting any of that, so boo.
All I can say is that I hope DC is happy with whatever the new direction is, because I'm tired of it changing every six months.
(Source: Kyle Higgin's Facebook)
Big week coming up, thanks for the delay Batman #27! Just making my life even more difficult!
- Batman #27: Zero Year continues with Batman getting shot up by the GCPD and more secrets!
- Batman and Two-Face #27: Erin McHillen vs. Batman vs. Two-Face! Let's go!
- Harley Quinn #2: Harley and Ivy? YEEEEEESSSSS!!!
- Batwoman #27: Some more on this new Wolf-Spider and surprise Francis Manapul art!
- Red Hood and the Outlaws #27: The end of the Ra's arc, and hopefully the end of this Jason is the one, nonsense.
I'm skipping panels of week this week, but Stack Rundown remains. Solicits next week, for sure... yeah man, I don't know what they're doing anymore after last month and now. Maybe they'll come out tomorrow or something? Fucking who knows!
You know what you should do in retaliation for DC's lack of consistent solicitation schedule? Go to my TFAW.com affiliate links via the banners to the right and bottom, and buy stuff from other companies! You stick it to the man (not really) and support Gotham Spoilers in the process!

The Mad Hatter has taken a Chicago vacation, and he wants his Alice back... Nightwing? Eh, whatever, kill him! And so begins the unexpected team-up of Nightwing and Marionette. Being well aware of Mad Hatter's gimmick, Dick goes for the hats on top of everyone's heads, but when he's still getting shot at, it's obvious that Hatter's game has evolved. It's Mali who figures out the mind control is coming from a phone, and once it's busted, she and Dick grab Michael and the cop he's been working with, and get the hell out of dodge.
Welcome to Gothtopia, blah blah, Gotham is all happy and safe. Say hello to Ms. Ramirez, who has a great life and a great job as the head of an ice cream company. But one day Ms. Ramirez wasn't feeling the happy and started having terrible dreams of a smile in the dark... hmm, wonder what that is? Oh well, time for another day at Joker Ice Cream.

Well, we knew the Batwoman one was coming, and I had found out about the Batgirl one, but it wasn't made public yet, so SURPRISE?! Batwoman will be dealing with those lingering plot threads prior to the whole Williams/Blackman/DC controversy, and Batgirl will start a new story arc involving Poison Ivy.
