Another week, another batch of comics to loosely talk about.

SPOILERS: Batman #9

It's saying something when a LoSH character hanging out in Batman is hardly the most WTF moment of an issue.

SPOILERS: Nightwing #7

The circus is a strange place, evident by the endless Nightwing stories that come from it.

Man, I sure wish Damian showed up in Batman books too... you know, where it'd make total and complete sense?

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #29

Remember all that stuff going on in Arkham? Yeah, it sure has been awhile, but it definitely is still happening... We should probably check in on that, I guess.

The Spoilers:

SOOOOOO... Weird issue. Joker's daughter is doing some stuff... and is called back to Blackfire. Hush is setting up a bomb with batarangs in it, or something, I think. Meanwhile, Arkham is going to hell.

Batwing gets in contact with Batman for real again, and sends him the Riddler code which he's got the key to, so Julia starts it getting deciphered... Then the ritual Blackfire is doing sorta blows up the Asylum, and the Riddler code is just Riddler saying that Arkham is only the beginning and if you're smart enough to read it then they know who their foe is.

The Review:

This is one of those issues where everyone goes "I don't know what's going on! What's going on? Huh? Whuuuuh?" and it fucking shows. The Arkham stuff has been by far and large the most seemingly disconnected element of Eternal, and given the series' structure issue of late (leaving too many plotlines dormant for too long) this first issue back beneath Arkham is really left hurting. The characters don't know what the fuck is going on and neither do I... I mean, Batman straight up asks how this could be connected back to Hush. I DON'T KNOW BATMAN, YOU TELL ME, YOU'RE GOD DAMN BATMAN! The Riddler's code ended up not really saying anything, because he seems to know something but he doesn't say what that is, so, shit man... I don't know.

If this issue had one good thing going for it, that was Simon Coleby's art. I don't know where he's been recently, but getting him to draw the creepy looking Arkham shit was definitely a great move. Dare I say, he's drawn the best Joker's daughter I've seen so far. So, there was that positive.

So yeah, I don't know. This storyline has been on the back burner for too long, that's for sure. What this story desperately needs is some clarity, because this "I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON!" definitely doesn't help when it comes back after it being MIA for months.

  1. Even though it was rough around the edges I like that they are bringing the Arkham story back and what's the likelihood of Riddler's being an anagram or something of the sort?
