SPOILERS: Batman #25

Nothing is funny, and that's the problem.

SPOILERS: All-Star Batman #11

Random note, but I really like the design of the villain of this arc.

SPOILERS: Nightwing #23

Dick Grayson is a pretty shitty boyfriend.

SPOILERS: Batwoman #4

At the end of the day, this arc was just too plain.

Batman/Superman #14 Preview

Hey look! Fill in art! But that shouldn't come as a surprise given this book's brief, yet delayed history. At least the artist they've got for this issue resembles Lee's style a bit. June Chung's colors help a lot with that too.

Batman Eternal #30 Cover

Comic Vine has got the reveal of the final of Clay Mann's Eternal covers, and with the Batwing centric cover to #29, I guess it's pretty clear by these last couple that Ray Fawkes is up next with scripting duties.

Batmans on a plane! And in case you missed it, these next two issues are part of a filler arc, regular team will be back with a new arc in December.

Gotham Academy #1 Preview

Couple more pages shown in this one compared to the pages USA Today showed off over the weekend. Man, this book is totally not my style in terms of the types of books I gravitate towards, but despite that, I'm still really excited for it, simply because it's so different. C'mon Wednesday, happen already.

Batman Beyond Saturdays, 09/27/2014

Was super busy last week, so I didn't get to this post. Whoops? Anyways, to make up, this post is going to cover the last two chapters, there, everything worked out!

Stack Rundown, 09/27/2014

Far thee well, September! I look forward to reading regular DC books again, outside of Batman of course... Or maybe not! My list of non-Batman related DC books got rather slim just prior to that Futures End break... Still undecided about Green Arrow, but who cares about next week!? What did I read this week?

Batman Eternal #26 Preview

Yeah, like I said in the post earlier in the week, I don't think Gurrera really fits this book visually. Works great in other types of stories, but here, not to my liking.

Looking Forward: October 1st, 2014

October is here, and there's a lot to look forward to. Something new pretty much every week, definitely going to be an exciting month for Gotham books in particular.
  • Batman Eternal #26: Hush has been introduced with some sort of history with Bruce still standing, time to learn what that history is.
  • Grayson #3: Some new guy who is supposed to be big in this book, The Tiger, is going to be introduced... Rawr?
  • Gotham Academy #1: Quite possibly the most unique Gotham book to be launched in years, and I'm looking forward to it.
  • Detective Comics #35: First of a two-part fill-in arc while the main team works ahead on their next arc.
  • Batman/Superman #14: On time thanks to fill-in art, but this book remains on incredibly shaky ground with me. I'll give it one issue after they gain their memories back to see how Batman is written... if it's still bad, I'll be saving my $4.
After next week we've got the new Batgirl team, then Arkham Manor, then the new Catwoman team... Lots of stuff to read. Like I said, October is going to be exciting.

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #25

Remember how we saw Gotham in martial law way back in Batman #28? Well, time to figure out how we got there! Oh wait... it was Hush? Yeeeeeeeah, pretty much... But there's more! I swear!

Futures End, Week 4: Harley Quinn & Catwoman

Final week of Futures End, and despite my lack of enthusiasm towards this event, at least I really enjoyed these last two offerings that I chose to read. Actually, for the issues I've read, they've been far more interesting than villains month... but then there was a lot of dumb stuff I chose not to read which I hope is never referenced again. So, you win some, and you lose a lot more.

Batman #35 (Endgame) Cover Reveal

Yesterday, I said this would probably happen, this being that Batman #35 would go up for digital pre-order and the cover would be revealed for the first time. Sure enough... here we go. So, full spoiler-filled cover after the jump.

New Gotham Books Preview Extravaganza

Gotham Acadamy #1 may be coming out next week, but USA Today's not stopping there. Included with the GA #1 preview, we've got a preview for Batgirl, as well as some work in progress art for Arkham Manor, Catwoman, and Gotham by Midnight. TAKE A LOOK WITH YOUR EYES!

Batman Eternal #25 Preview

The way things were moving (quickly) for Steph, I was half expecting Harper to come back from Japan and just be "I'm Bluebird now!" So I'm glad I was wrong with that one.

The website DC gave this preview to is using scaled down images which you have to edit the URL to in order to make them legible, so I went ahead and did that for you.

Looking Forward: September 24th, 2014

Last week of Futures End Month! Hooray! Regular comics are coming back... only to go away in April and May again... Then they'll come back... then go away in September 2015. Fuuuuuck.
  • Batman Eternal #25: HUSH! But this week's issue's last page said something about it being an issue about Julia Pennyworth.
  • Harley Quinn: Futures End #1: Harley's getting married to the Joker! Where's this going to fit into continuity? Probably no where! But who cares?! It'll probably be fun.
  • Catwoman: Futures End #1: Catmask? I don't know. This will probably be dumbish, but hey, let's just read this out of spite of what Catwoman had been up until now.
So that's that. Support Gotham Spoilers by shopping at the stores I've got linked to. See you next week!

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #24

Welcome to Gotham Spoilers, where I write spoilers about an issue where Spoiler does some spoiling of her own... SPOIL!

Futures End, Week 3: Batman and Robin

True story, I was going to include Batwoman this week, but then I remembered I think randomly turning characters into vampires is super lame and only a move that's made when no one actually has any idea what to do with a "spooOooOOooky" looking character... So screw that noise... also I'm dropping the main series too, so there's that. Bye Kate... Call me when DC decides to fix you. Now, on with the show.

Batman Eternal #24 Preview

Hey look! It's Stephanie. Long time no see. With Catwoman coming back last week, and Steph this week, who wants to bet we see Harper again soon? I guess I could look at a solicit, but even I don't tell myself what to do! Suck on that, me!

Batman Group December 2014 Solicitations

DECEMBER! Last month of the year. No real creator changes to close out the year, but it is a five week month, so you know what that means? Annuals! Batman gets Annual #3, which acts as the one (and probably only) tie-in for Endgame, it'll be written by James Tynion IV and illustrated by Roge Antonio, while Grayson gets its first annual, followed by Red Hood and the Outlaws and Catwoman's second annuals. Not to be left out, there will be a Harley Quinn Holiday Special which is something I said DC should way back in July, so thanks for listening! Rounding out the things of note, Secret Origins #8 will start Dick Grayson in one its chapters. Confused? Sure you are, because there was already a SO story for Dick, but this time around, it'll be acting as a bridge filling in the gap between Nightwing #30 and Grayson #1, as confirmed by writer Tim Seeley.

So, with all that out of the way, let's get to some solicitations!

Clay Mann's Batman Eternal #28 Cover

Comic Vine's got the first look at Clay Mann's new Batman Eternal cover, in all it's old Batgirl costume glory. Given that preview that leaked out today, and a few solid months of pre-Burnside Batgirl in Eternal, the tonal disconnect between the two characters is gonnna be weeeeeeird.

Also, I mentioned this on twitter once, but might as well point out this dumb thing here... Notice Clay Mann's signature? It just says "Man." Where's the other n?! This bothers me to a stupid degree.

(Source: Comic Vine)

First Look at Batgirl #35

Bleeding Cool got their hands on a 10 page preview of Batgirl #35 that DC has sent to retailers, so naturally, they put it up online. Personally, I'm not reading it because it's quite literally half the comic, and I've even stopped reading 4 page previews for the sake of going in on Wednesday fresh. But just scanning through the art, I've got to say that Babs Tarr and Cameron Stewart make one hell of a team. I am bummed about one thing though... I thought Jordie Bellaire was supposed to be the colorist. Not that the colors look bad (they're great, actually) but I was just excited to see her on a regular DC project, as she's one of the best out there currently.

EDIT: If you're following Cameron Stewart on Twitter, you probably know that he's not that pleased with BC leaking the preview. The big issue seems to be that it's not final. Dialogue, text, and art is not all final, so if you choose to read it, know that going in.

Batman Beyond Saturdays, 09/13/2014

Announcement! This series ends in November. That sucks. Only seven more chapters before it ends with #40, so enjoy it while it lasts, I guess.

Stack Rundown, 09/13/2014

Slim week, but hey there, it's a new Grant Morrison book! Did you know that was happening? I bet not! Because I bet you didn't even know the publisher it is from existed, just like me! Oh well, Morrison! Comics! That's good!

First Look at Batman Group December Solicitations

Not the full solicits this time around, but the solicits for books that are getting big shakeups or are new starting in October... Oh, also Robin Rises: Alpha, which... GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE.

Batman and Robin: Futures End #1 Preview

Huh. So that kid from Zero Year is Robin in this? Weird. Weird, weird, weird. Definitely interested in what, if anything this could mean. Also, cue the Newsarama Robin speculation article, or a repost of their previous one with a new date slapped on it in 3... 2...

Snyder Shows off a Gotham Academy Spread

Scott Snyder is at the DC offices today, and instead of leaking more of Endgame, he's decided to leak everyone else's shit. That darn Snyder!

A few minutes ago, Snyder showed off this double page spread from Gotham Academy #1 (I'm assuming it's #1, safe bet) illustrating that yep, it's definitely still Gotham, where it's gloomy and dreary all the time... You know it's all those homicidal maniacs... releasing... CO2 in the air... causing global warming... by murdering people. Yep, that checks out.

The art and colors look absolutely fantastic. Still not entirely sold on the character designs, as they look a little like anime characters for my taste, but whatever, I can get over that. Comes out October 1st! I think!

Looking Forward: September 17th, 2014

Son of a bitch, there's something in Futures End next week that I'm actually genuinely interested in, imagine that! Maybe interrupting the entire line of books annually isn't that super annoying...

No wait, it definitely still is.
  • Batman Eternal #24: Enter The Spoiler! We've known about Stephanie's return for quite some time, now it's time for her to kick someone's ass... But given how things usually go for her, something'll go wrong.
  • Batman and Robin: Futures End #1: What's this with The Heretic on the cover? That's curious as shit, son! Will this give a hint as to what's going down in Robin Rises? Maybe... maybe not (I'll bet not, but hell, I'm still reading it).
Not reading Batwoman this month... or potentially next month, either. We'll see.

Unless they're released early, I'd expect December solicitations on Monday, so look forward to that and in the meantime, do the "support Gotham Spoilers" thing by shopping through any of the banners I've got around the site.

Late Night Endgame Teasers

A couple of weeks ago, I was having a short DM conversation with Scott Snyder and was asked what I thought Endgame was going to be. My response was somewhere along the lines of "Fuck if I know," because I mean... based on what little we know about it (Uh, the Justice League shows up?) and the art teasers, it's god damn impossible to know.  Since then, Snyder has been releasing a few out of context teasers, which I've got after the jump.

Oh hey look, it's Cassandra Cain (for real...ish)

So, because I had other posts to do, you may have heard about this already, but whatever, why would you go to any other comic site? You don't, because you're not a jerk, and I'm super cool! Regardless, last week we kind of sorta got a Cassandra Cain appearance in The New 52, only it was clear that something had changed, so DC hastily recolored her to throw us off their track. Why draw her and then try and cover it up? Well, potentially it was due to this week's Batgirl: Futures End, where, as many guessed by just assuming stuff based on the cover, there's a sort of Batgirl Inc. thing going on, and both Cassandra and Stephanie are Batgirls in this version of the future.

Cool. It's Cass. Everyone loves Cass... Buuuuuuuuuuut...

When news broke about Cass showing up in today's issue, I made a joke tweet over at my Dastardly Dan Didio account about the event. As with many jokes, there's a nugget of truth in there. This is a dystopian future story that reflects events that'll never become the norm in the regular DCU, so I'm not exactly sitting here with a "Mission Accomplished" banner... or perhaps I should, I guess that joke fits... I digress. Sure, Cass is "back," Steph is a Batgirl, but what does it really matter? I mean, this is going to disappear just as fast as it showed up. It's cool for this one and done sort of thing, but after the emotional response fades, the question of "Where's Cass?" will return. Next month, the DCU will go back to normal, and Cass will be nowhere to be found again.

I certainly hope this isn't it on DC's efforts in regards to putting Cassandra Cain in a book, because if is, calling it half-hearted would be an understatement. Put Cassandra Cain in a book whose continuity isn't marked with an asterisk, and then we'll talk DC, because as far as I'm concerned, as soon as tomorrow hits, we're right back to where we started at the beginning of the New 52.

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #23

Revelations of Selina Kyle's past! ...of which, most readers probably figured out months ago due to Batman #28's spoilers, but nevertheless, REVELATIONS!

Futures End, Week 2: Batman

I only got one of these issues to write about this week, so why not do a full regular post? ...Because I don't wanna! So, there.

Clay Mann's Batman Eternal #27 Cover

Sneaky, sneaky DC. Putting up this cover up with no announcement! But I see, I always see! And you know what I see? Some "Heart of Hush" looking shit!

Batman Eternal #23 Preview

Two things I'm glad to see in this issue: One, Catwoman. It's been too long for her in this series. We haven't seen her since issue #11 or something. Two, Catwoman drawn by Dustin Nguyen. "Heart of Hush" was quite some time ago... and oh hey look, Hush is here too.

Curious to see if this ends up tying into, or at least alluding to the Snyder/Murphy "Year 200" stuff we saw in Detective Comics #27... If it already does so in the preview, apologies, I hardly read these ahead of time anymore.

Batman Beyond Saturdays, 09/06/2014

Rewire has been broken out of Arkham, but he's not Ghoul's only target for a new (and improved) ally.

Stack Rundown, 09/06/2014

What a week, Southern Bastards ends on a big "holy shit!" while I felt the complete opposite in regards to the ending of the first Marvel event I've read in individual issues. Both from the same guy! Comics are weird like that... Buuut also depend a lot on personal taste, so there's that too.

Greg Capullo Potentially Leaving Batman...

In 16 issues... #CLICKBAIT! HAR HAR! Am I interneting right?

Nevertheless, Bleeding Cool is reporting that at a panel spotlighting him, Greg Capullo talked about leaving Batman in 16 issues in order to relaunch his creator owned Image title The Creech, along with Scott Snyder writing it.

That's quite a big piece of news if this ends up happening.

I say "if" because 16 issues is over two years from now, and a lot can happen between now and then... like something could piss Capullo off and he could leave earlier! I kid, I kid... stranger things have happened though.

This shouldn't come as that much of a surprise, as both Capullo and Snyder have said for some time now that they're contracted until issue #50, and we're at #34 right now, so add 16 to that, and you've got your big five-oh right there. Now, the question remains, would that be 16 issues illustrated by Capullo, or simply just 16 issues total, regardless of whether Capullo draws them or not, given he tends not to draw the issues inbetween arcs.

Only time will tell, I guess.

UPDATE: Remember when I said "I say 'if' because" blah blah blah? Yeah, this is pretty much why I made that note:

Looking Forward: September 10th, 2014

Only one Futures End issue next week (that I'm covering, sorry Batgirl, you got to wait until October for when I start caring again), but Catwoman also steps back into Batman Eternal after quite a few weeks of nothing from her.
  • Batman Eternal #23: Like I said, Catwoman! When was the last time we saw her? #11? Yeah... they better hurry the hell up with the kingpin of Gotham plot, as her book is about to get there.
  • Batman: Futures End #1: I've got no idea what this one is going to be about... Batman got a sweet new spine? Sure.
Sorry for the lateness of this post, not like it really matters though... I was busy doing work that I actually get paid for. SPEAKING OF WHICH! You know what would be cool? To support Gotham Spoilers. How can you do that? Well, if you click on the story banners I got up on the site, and buy something within that browsing session, then you've done it! So make sure to think of good ol' Gotham Spoilers anytime you need to buy some comic related merch online!

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #22

Alfred is down for the count, Batman is distracted and Hush is back... Things are about to get bad, real bad.

Futures End, Week 1: Grayson & Detective Comics

As noted last week, I'm not doing full write ups of these issues, because I'm not huge on the whole Futures End idea to begin with, and I'm especially not big on dedicating the same amount of time to it. So instead, I'm just doing short write ups of each issue and I'll throw in a few thoughts about them. First up, Grayson and Detective Comics.

Oh Look, It's Cassandra Cain... AND SHE'S GONE

So, today is the start of DC's Futures End month, with all the title jumping ahead five years into the future. Now, while I dropped Batwing a few months back, the inclusion of Leviathan (and eventually Batman Inc.) was enough to pique my interest and get me to check it out this month. Boy, I'm glad that I did... and you'll see why after the jump.

Batman Eternal #22 Preview
