Panels of the Week, 08/28/2014

So yeah, gonna spoil one of the bigger reveals of Eternal in this one, but then again, not like CBR didn't post this page on Tuesday evening... Whoops.

Looking Forward: September 3rd, 2014

Futures End month... Ugh. Not really looking forward to it as a whole... The Grayson and Harley Quinn issues could be cool, but everything else? Eeeeeh. That said, because I'm less than enthused towards DC's next New 52 anniversary event, and given how borderline pointless the last couple were, I won't be doing full write ups of each FE issue. Instead of full write ups, I'll be doing something like my Stack Rundown posts, and just have one post with some quick thoughts/spoilers of each FE issue I bother with from week to week. Batman Eternal will continue to get full write-ups.
  • Batman Eternal #22: The Architect! Remember him? He's from Gates of Gotham, which Kyle Higgins wrote, and look at that! Kyle Higgins joins Eternal.
  • Grayson: Futures End #1: Grayson goes to Mother Russia... for some reason.
  • Detective Comics: Futures End #1: Batman and Riddler team up... for some reason.
So yeah, just a month of stuff happening, for some reason. I don't have high hopes, I might not even read all FE issues of my regular pull, because just... bleeeeh.

In the meantime, as usual, if you can, I'd suggest you supporting Gotham Spoilers by doing any online comic stuff shopping via the affiliate banners you will see on the site. Things From Another World and Super Hero Stuff are pretty rad places to buy rad shit, just saying!

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #21

Remember how for the past month or so, I've been saying Batman Eternal needs a bit of kick in the ass? Well, turns out someone was listening, and an ass was kicked back into gear.

SPOILERS: Harley Quinn #10

So... We've got Fight Skate Club, no rules, and Harley Quinn participating... How many body bags are going to be required when all is said and done?

SPOILERS: Batman/Superman #13

After months of delays, fill-in issues and multiple repeat solicitations, the new story arc is finally, finally here. Now the question is, was it worth the wait?

Three New Gotham Academy Teasers

The Gotham Academy team has steadily been putting out teasers for their new series, and today we got three images, each highlighting one of the characters, illustrated by Becky Cloonan.

Monday, August 25, 2014

SHH! This Eternal Cover is a BIG Spoiler

I've been saying this is who this is for a good while now, just kicking myself for not getting around to the "let's look at the evidence" post. Whatever, this is why you should follow me on Twitter, or read every dumb post I make on message boards arguing against people who aren't using logic or clues... No wait, don't do that, those are terrible.

Spoilers after the jump.

Batman/Superman #13 Preview

This book has got a long climb up "Give a Shit Mountain" for me. At first, this arc sounded cool and interesting, but then the long and plentiful delays started happening (anyone who thinks we're getting two issues in October, both illustrated by Jae Lee is a fool), and then when issue #12 came out, this arc was revealed to be a amnesia arc, which is another "ugh," in my book. A bigger problem for me? This book hardly feels like it matters or is in continuity, which is exactly why I never cared about the pre-New 52 Superman/Batman, because it was just that, not in continuity after a certain point.

So yeah... this issue is going to have to do something special for me to keep reading.

A tip for the preview, the gallery is super small, because... for some reason some websites think that's acceptable to display a preview like that with no obvious way of enlarging the images. Just right click and open the image in a new tab, you should get a readable image out of that.

Batman Beyond Saturdays, 08/23/2014

Pretty action heavy issue, so this won't take long to write up!

Stack Rundown, 08/23/2014

Multiversity actually came out this week, so basically fuck every other comic in existence, right? Game, set and match. Morrison wins. Everyone else might as well quit.

Well, not quite... but damn was Multiversity perfect insanity.

Batman Eternal #21 Preview

Hmm... that's kind of weird, if evidence that proves Gordon's innocence is found, how come he's getting convicted? QUESTIONS! I got 'em.

(Source: Newsarama)

How about a Becky Cloonan Gotham Academy Cover?

Apologies, I would have had this up last night, but I was in the middle of a marathon gaming session that lasted to 1am when I quit in frustration. Nevertheless, here's Olive and a newly revealed character, Pomeline, drawn by GA co-writer Becky Cloonan, and it sure is purdy.

Harley Quinn #10 Preview

Given the accelerated release, we've got another artist drawing this issue, but the good news is that it's one of the guys who pitched in on the SDCC special, specifically the one who drew the day where Harley got in trouble with all the Harley cosplayers.

Looking Forward: August 27th, 2014

And we come to the end of yet another month... This year is seriously flying by.
  • Batman Eternal #21: Jason Fabok's back for another issue, and I guess that's supposed to mean it's a big one? All I know is Alfred's on the cover being a badass, so there's that!
  • Harley Quinn #10: Second of Harley's issues this month brings the bi-weekly Harley goodness to an end... BOO! Going back to one a month after this.
  • Batman/Superman #13: I'm writing this post on the 15th, so this could get delayed again, who fucking knows? All I do know is that this issue better wow me away, because something is going to have to get me through the upcoming delays anyone with half a brain knows are coming.
So that's that! Do the support Gotham Spoilers thing by shopping through the affiliate banners I got up, and I'll see you next week!

SPOILERS: Batman and Robin #34

Batman is about to bring hell to Apokolips (which is saying something) but first, he's got to clear up a few standing issues with the family.

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #20

SPOILER ALERT: Spoiler... Get it? Because Steph is spoiler, she's it to spoiling things, and this is Gotham Spoilers. HAR. HAR. I'm so clever.

SPOILERS: Batwoman #34

Some things that were pretty obviously going to happen, well... they happened, and that's pretty much what this book has been doing for awhile now.

Batwoman #34 Preview

This just makes me wish I could get Moritat on Catwoman. Looks a bit different than his usual work, but I'll throw that up to having an inker working on his pages.

Batman Group November 2014 Solicitations

Not many changes to the lineup in November, aside from one: Ardian Syaf is the new artist on Batman/Superman. Hey! Look at that! Someone who can actually work on a monthly title without months in between issues.

Batman Eternal #20 Preview

This issue is the final issue that's going to be collected in the first trade of Eternal. Then next week we've got Kyle Higgins replacing John Layman... I wonder if we're in for a major shift in the story with this week?

Batman and Robin #34 Preview

Remember the Requiem arc? Man, rough times. Thanks for the apology, Pete Bruce! Now let's bring back Damian.

Batman Beyond Saturdays, 08/16/2014

After last week's issue where we find out why Dick and Bruce had a falling out, this week we learn why the Phantasm has returned to hunt down Jake Chill.

Stack Rundown, 08/16/2014

Marvel heavy week this time around, didn't read anything else from DC, other than the books covered here, and there were only a couple of Image releases. I can't say that I miss the times when I had 12+ books to cover in this post each week.

Batgirl #36 Cover

Great looking cover, but man, I really want to see what the art is going to look like with Cameron Stewart's layouts and Babs Tarr's art over them. Should be a good combo, remember that fight scene in Batman and Robin #16 (vol. 1) with like a billion panels? Yeah, that.

Catwoman and Arkham Manor Solicits

Dear DC, the way you're handling solicits this month is really annoying. "Let's give this site two, this other site three, these guys get a couple" oh for fuck's sake, just release them all! GAH!

Anyways, The Mary Sue has got the solicits for Arkham Manor and Catwoman, so make sure to check them out for the other cover and... Holly Robinson?

Batman and Robin #36 Cover

Ha-HA! I knew fiddling around with the URL at USA Today would get me the full res image. But hey! Look at that shit! Everyone's Robin! Interesting to see that this seems to be the first book reflecting Babs' status quo.

Gotham Academy #2 Cover and Interview

Gotham Academy is the book that DC announced last month which will probably need the most effort in order to sell to the market, so it's good to see they're getting early promotion and interviews out of the way. So hey, look at that great cover and read the interview at Newsarama while you're at it.

So, Batman: Endgame, huh?

It's not even noon, how am I this drunk already?

(Source: Greg Capullo's Twitter)

Panels of the Week, 08/14/2014

I got nothing for this part of the post! I mean, I've done how many of these types of posts? At some point there's just not much I can say here.

Looking Forward: August 20th, 2014

Robin Rises continues, as the second arc of Batwoman ends, and Eternal is ETERNAL!
  • Batman Eternal #20: The last issue of the current Tim Seeley arc sees things boil over in Blackgate.
  • Batman and Robin #34: Hey Lex Luthor, you're about to get BATMAN'D!
  • Batwoman #34: This is dubbed as a "change everything" issue, and given where the last issue left off, I'm kind of confused as how that's going to work out.
Assuming solicits didn't come out this week, full solicits definitely coming Monday, so yay, November?

As always, make sure to support Gotham Spoilers by buying any comics or comic related swag at either of my affiliate store links. You access the store through the banner, buy stuff in that session, and Gotham Spoilers gets a few bucks, it's pretty rad.

First Look at Garry Brown's Catwoman

First off, I'd like to point out how happy I am that I actually get to talk about this book again without going "Ugh" or "What is this?!" or any other indication of displeasure towards it.

Anyways, as the title suggests, here's a few bits of art from Garry Brown's upcoming run on the book. Above we've got a cover (maybe someone realized Jae Lee really should be spending his time drawing Batman/Superman, and guess what, that next issue got delayed again) followed by a few Cat/Bat panels.

Gotham by Midnight coming in November

Did you think Gotham Academy and Arkham Manor were weird books for DC to publish? Well, guess what? THEY'RE NOT DONE!

Just announced for November is the new horror/supernatural title Gotham by Midnight, by writer Ray Fawkes and artist Ben Templesmith. Starring Jim Corrigan (host of The Spectre), the series sounds a bit like Gotham Central, only SPOOOOOOKIER, as we'll be following the adventures of a group known as The Midnight Shift, who delve deep into the creepier corners of Gotham City.

So with Gotham by Midnight, Gotham Academy and Arkham Manor, we've got three new titles that are completely weird and out of left field considering what DC normally publishes. Who knows if these titles will catch on (I hope they do), but it's great that DC, or at least Mark Doyle, is really trying to move away from the typical middle-line house style of books which have plagued the New 52 with uninspired tedium.

Harley Quinn #9 Preview

In case your wondering, that guy is probably "Max Macabre" ("probably" is an understatement), who is described in October's solicit as being the love interest for Harley... Yeah, I'm sure that'll go well.

First Look at Finished Gotham Academy Art

If you follow Gotham Academy artist Karl Kerschl online, you've probably seen a few looks at the art from the series, but today is the first day we get a look at the finished art colored by Romain Gaschet, aaaaaannnnnnd....

Damn.

Batman Beyond Saturdays, 08/09/2014

Something happened between Dick and Bruce and it's been a big question hovering over the series for a while, and now, answers!

Stack Rundown, 08/09/2014

Shortish week, aided by the fact that I combined two issues into one write up, and forgot to buy the third issue of the Thor/Loki Original Sin series. Why not just buy it now? Well, I figure if I forget to buy something, it's clearly not that important to me in my mind, so what's the point? I'll see Thor later when he becomes unworthy and the new one takes his place!

Panels of the Week, 08/07/2014

Kinda forgot to do this, whoops!

Looking Forward: August 13th, 2014

Sort of interesting week coming up, maybe solicitations will happen! Probably not! We might get a few early peaks at them or something.
  • Batman #34: Zero Year is done, so Gerry Duggan and Matteo Scalera join Scott Snyder for a one-and-done that may or may not lead into Arkham Manor, I think?
  • Batman Eternal #20: Jason Todd and Barbara Gordon, the odd couple of Batman Eternal
  • Harley Quinn #9: The first of two issues this month!
That's about it. So yeah, maybe some November news? Maybe not? We'll see.

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #18

Batgirl, Batwoman and Red Hood team up in South America, but that's not the only team-up-trio to be had this issue, and I bet you won't guess what the other one is... that is, if you don't look at the cover!

SPOILERS: Grayson #2

Something, something, more like take a bite out of crime fighters, something, something... OH HEY THERE! Mission #2 for Agent 37 is a go!

SPOILERS: Detective Comics #34

The "Icarus" arc comes to an end, and while there's plenty of fantastic art to go around, the story falls a bit flat in more than one instance.
