Batman Group October 2014 Solicitations

GET YOUR SOLICITATIONS HERE!

Both Gotham Academy and Arkham Manor didn't seem to make this initial reveal, but I'll update the post as soon as those come in. Let's look at what you should take note of this time around.
  • "Endgame" is your new Batman arc. No details are given, but seems like there'll be a backstory again, with James Tynion co-writing like usual. Also, expect that cover to change.
  • Batman/Superman #15 was solicited, but expect that issue to be pushed back to November (or even further)
  • Instead of doing what they did on The Flash and just get a fill-in artist, seems like the regular Detective team of Manapul and Buccellato will just be taking two issues off. In their place Ben Percy and John Paul Leon will have a two-parter story.
  • New Batgirl team and all that.
  • Apparently DC's solicitation writers can't get their shit together and have Will Pfeifer listed as writer of Red Hood, again. Expect that to be Scott Lobdell.
  • Georges Jeanty is the new artist on Batwoman.
  • New Catwoman team and all that.
  • The Harley Quinn "scent-ticular" is indeed the Harley Quinn Annual
Hit the jump for the solicits!

  1. I won't lie, the cover to Harley Quinn #11 made me laugh out loud.

  2. If this solicit is correct, it makes me even more annoyed they took out the backups for Batman. Snyder said recently they were going to do some more Batman and Riddler origin stuff in the backups before plans changed, and now they bring them back after that opportunity's been missed. Hopefully they release some kind of extra-sized issue or one-shot in which they get to show the ideas they had for the Zero Year backups they didn't get to use, or something. Anyway, hopefully we'll have a general idea of what Endgame is about by at least SDCC.

  3. Re: Batman #35 cover, do you say expect it to change based on any special info, or just the assumption that its minimal design/secretive nature means we'll get something more elaborate? I only ask because we've seen a lot of minimalist covers by Capullo throughout the run, so I wouldn't be shocked if that is the official "A" cover.

Re: Batwoman, Jeremy Huan didn't last long, which is a bummer. Though, I dropped the title post-Williams III, so it's no biggie to me. What I'm shocked about is that the title supposedly climbed 15,000 units between May (~18,000) and June (~33,000). May's #31 was the end of the Wolf-Spider arc, and June's #32 was the introduction of Nocturna, but it was still Jeremy Huan on art, so it's not like a new creative team came on board. I really wonder if that's an error or if the Batwoman Annual in May really brought on board a lot more readers to the regular title in June. Kinda crazy either way. I mean, it was headed for cancelation territory numbers. Wasn't even cracking the top 100. (I'm not proposing a "conspiracy" or anything stupid, just pointing out something very strange and inexplicable to me.)

    1. The file name of the Batman cover on DC's site is "BM_Cv35_Previews." Normal covers usually wouldn't have the logo already on it like that, so it's pretty clearly a teaser image.

    2. Also, that climb was apparently due to the Bombshell variants according to Bret Booth (Flash also climbed). Apparently they did REAL well.

    4. Re: Batman #35, thanks for the explanation. You'd obviously know a lot more about that than a luddite like me.

Re: Batwoman: Ah-hah! Thanks for the info. So cover gimmicks really do work. Wow.

  4. God, that Batman and Robin cover. So awesome. Also, what's with Power Girl? I thought she was back on Earth 2.

  5. Who else thinks Red Hood's suit on the Eternal #26 cover looks like Batman's in BATMAN BEGINS?
