Ra's should wear a suit more often, that's my biggest take away from this issue.
Surprise, hero goes to place in their past and everyone wants them dead! Whoops.
Batman heads to the past, then gets Metal, meanwhile Nightwing fights everyone.

Things aren't going well for James Gordon, and by day, he gets his parole request denied and sentenced to be placed in Blackgate until his trial, by night, Batgirl takes it upon herself to figure out who set up her father by beating the shit out of Pyg's men, and Batman when he tries to stop her.
It's Spring, and here are the Birds of Prey! Remember when the team at least had an interesting lineup? Not only was their Black Canary and Batgirl, but you had Katana, Starling (fucking Starling!) and last but not least, Poison Ivy. Definitely not your average Birds, but they were cool... So here's a lost tale of that team, on the look out for a man called Dr. Rain, who somehow is getting terminally ill people to act as terrorists for him. At the end of the fight, which Batgirl notices Ivy acting oddly happy during, one of the people they beat whispers something into Ivy's ear on behalf of Dr. Rain, which kills her mood instantly. A week later, Ivy betrays the Birds in a story I can't even remember at this point.
Hey, remember this story? DEO blackmailing Batwoman into exposing Batman's identity? Last we left off, Batman and Batwoman were busy punching each other, and that continues, until Bruce manages to separate himself and Kate away from Mr. Bones, who is cheering Batwoman on like it's a WWE match.
Forever Evil is over! (sorta) And Gotham is getting back to normal... aside from the fact that Bane still controls it. Alfred sits alone in the Batcave waiting for news, but Titus starts barking... who could it be, I wonder?!

This issue is going to be weird... this whole situation is has been weird... But Marc Andreyko has been doing well on Batwoman proper, so I expect the same here. I'd be real interested in seeing what the differences were between this and the original plot line, but I doubt we'll ever get to see that.
Also, Moritat of All-Star Western fame pitched in on this issue... He was super dependable on All-Star then just vanished, and now he's showing up in Gotham. Hmm. I nominate him to illustrated Catwoman whenever the Eternal status quo shift happens.

::Insert Forever Evil being late as shit jab here:: Man, I completely forgot that they went full on The Dark Knight Rises with Bane's attire. So on the nose and cheesy, in my opinion... But oh well, they could have done other things that made this look like a thoughtful homage... trust me.

Pretty much just those pages I posted this week, give or take a couple more, with lettering. Spoilers: Jim Gordon is fucked.
Along with this being Dustin Nguyen's first issue (he'll return in July) this is also the first "solo" issue for the writers. John Layman scripted this issue, James Tynion's issue is next week, then Ray Fawkes followed by Tim Seeley. Following that, we're apparently getting three issue arcs scripted by each. Not sure on the order of those. Then of course Kyle Higgins comes in on a later date, I'd imagine around #30 or so.
Fun fact: I initially missed that "some time ago" time indication and was about to go off on this preview (for obvious reasons) of how the continuity was a mess. Silly me!
But hey... remember when Birds of Prey at least had an interesting team?

Holy shit, someone at a DC panel actually said something that hadn't been revealed in solicitations yet! I think I might be going into shock.
Anyways, I'll try to get through this... Remember Robin Rises: Omega? Well, there's going to be an Alpha too, which will come out in December, when the next arc of Batman and Robin ends. By that time, Batman will have a Robin again.
And it probably won't be Damian, because DC hates us all.
Man, it was a super slim week for me, in general. I read a shit ton of books, this is well documented... where'd they all go?! Even with the books I covered on the site this week, I only read six... SIX. Remember weeks where I'd have like thirteen books to cover in this post alone?
I don't exactly miss the work though...

I'm usually on top of things, but sometimes various bits of info fall through the internet cracks for me, like this Batman Eternal #4 art from Dustin Nguyen that was released a couple of weeks ago... Whoops? I believe this was actually shown off at some conventions, but this is the first I've seen of it online. Anyways, Batman Eternal #4 hits next week, so look for a preview soon.
Thursday, April 24, 2014
Get your annuals here! Also, guess what, more Batman Eternal! Always Batman Eternal!
- Batman Eternal #4: Dustin Nguyen jumps in as Batgirl and Batman face off after James Gordon's arrest.
- Batgirl Annual #2: Speaking of Batgirl, her and Poison Ivy do something!
- Batwoman Annual #1: Holy dangling plot threads, Bat
- Forever Evil Aftermath - Batman vs. Bane #1: Remember this? Neither do I. Hot guess: Batman and Bane fights. Batman wins. The end.
So, solicits came out this week? How about them books? ...I don't know, I'm writing this on a Sunday again, so I have no idea what I'm talking about!

Because Stephanie Brown has all of the best luck in the world, when she goes back to her dad's house (despite her mother pleading with her not to) she comes to find that her father is a criminal by the name of Cluemaster, and is currently meeting with the likes of Firefly, Lockup, Signal Man and a mysterious fourth man, who knocks her out form the shadows.
Tuesday, April 22, 2014
Oh hey! Real solicitations this time! So we got Grayson, we got Robin Rises, we got Harley Quinn Invades SDCC and we also got the third Detective Comics Annual! Outside of those new series and one-shots, here are a list of other points to take note of:
- The same god damn issue of Batman/Superman has beens solicited for the third month in a row. Not surprised, as given the series recent delays, putting one inventory issue in (and double shipping another issue that very month) was never going to allow the team to catch up completely. So, either #11 or #12, probably going to be another inventory issue.
- Batman Eternal's art team for the five week month will be Mikel Janin (wouldn't be surprised to see this change due to Grayson), Jason Fabok and Dustin Nguyen.
- Amanda Conner "and others" will be drawing the Harley one-shot (hooray!)
- R.B. Silva is your new Red Hood artist, hopefully whoever inks him, if anyone, doesn't suck.
Solicits after the jump!
July? Old news! August? Fuck August! Who needs August? September solicits are where it's at! Well, incomplete September solicits that is.
Yes, with regular July solicits due to hit in a couple of hours, DC has already given us a glimpse into the future (heh) with a first look at the September Futures End event tie-ins. Replacing their usual titles for a month, we'll get a series of one-shots set in or near the events of DC's next weekly series. Why are we getting these so early? Well, remember last time DC had 3D covers and botched up the ordering process? Well, perhaps two months advanced notice will help fix that this time around.
There's something you may realize with these solicits... None of them have creative teams (or covers) attached to them. Why's that? Well because I can guarantee you not even DC knows who is going to be writing and illustrating all these. When the event was announced, Dan Didio spat out the pipe-dream of many of the books having their usual creative teams tackle these tie-ins, but it's naive to believe so. Take for instance Capullo and the rest of the Batman art team taking a break after Zero Year ends, I doubt they'd be drawing the the Batman tie-in issue. So we'll probably get creative teams announced in two months, and I bet there'd be a number of changes from then to release as well! Still think it's weird that no names are attached, because retailers and fans do order based on creators they follow... soooooo, whatever?
Also, Batman Eternal will probably continue throughout September.

Hahahaha... everything about this is hilarious. IGN edited already, but their original headline was "The First Contact story is nearly complete!" HAHAHA. Now there's a whole explanation of the screwed up release of this nonsense instead.
Spoiler alert: Nothing happens. But then again, that's par for the course with Worlds' Finest.
Thursday, April 17, 2014
Well, after this week, I'll gladly take a single issue week.
- Batman Eternal #3: Waaaay back last year, we thought this issue would be Stephanie Brown's debut in the New 52, then Batman #28 happened... But still! Stephanie Brown!
Batman/Superman #9 also comes out next week, but like I said last time, I thought the crossover was bad, and have no intention on covering it... and I didn't even have to say that in retrospect, given the production of this issue made that decision pretty easy, since you know... huge delays, part 4 already being out, and this being part 3... Yeeeeah. But whatever, spoiler alert: the story that took the lead from Worlds' Finest didn't amount to shit and nothing happened. Who would have thought!?
Solicits might come out next week? I don't know. I'm writing this on Sunday afternoon with no indications of them happening tomorrow. I'm not going to edit this post, because it'll be marginally funnier that way.
Final note: So last week's trade sale I had was a huge success. Thanks for everyone who bought books off me, if the USPS is to be trusted, you should be getting your books around now, so hopefully everything arrives on time. I may still have a couple books available (again, it's Sunday), so check the eBay page. And as always, you can continue to support the site by shopping through my affiliate banners.

After having a "Julie Madison just turned into my dead mother" dream, Bruce wakes up in an unfamiliar apartment, being watched over by a kid named Duke Thomas, aka the kid we saw Bruce rescue in the first issue of Zero Year. Things have gotten bad while Bruce has been out, like post-apoctaliptic bad, and time for Gotham has been set on a new scale by it's ruler The Riddler, welcome to Zero Year (THEY SAID IT!)
With the Gotham Gazzette about to run the story on Jim Gordon, it's not long before most of the Bat-family is alerted to the news via various sources. While the news breaks, the less than reputable Mayor Hady retreats into his office, where an old friend waits for him in the shadows.
As one might expect, many of the Amazons don't take kindly to a man being brought to their island, but given the circumstances, Diana vouches for Bruce. Even with Diana backing him, Bruce's presence still causes a bit of Amazonian animosity, but after a brief confrontation, Diana and Bruce go on their way, given a timeframe the rest of the Amazons will tolerate Bruce on their island. Before the to go meet the Oracle who they hope will tell them where Ra's is on the island, Diana pays a visit to her mother, who is still under Hera's curse.
Harley has one hell of a night. After meeting with Syborg, downing a couple chili-dogs and getting the intel she's supposed to study, she heads to a show in her building where she mistakes the act for being real, and ends up attacking everyone on stage. After that misunderstanding, Harley falls asleep studying Syborg's file of targets, then has a trippy chili-dog digestion field dream about russian espionage and whatnot.
So... I mean... there's a person with a Bat on their chest in Arkham, and all the D listers are released... what do you expect happens? Batwoman fights them a bit, then gives chase to Wolf-Spider, who gets away, but not before Kate tagging him with a tracking device.
The plan is simple... sort of. Jason and Kori go to the blown up Blackhawks base (see Blackhawks #8 for more, like that's a realistic thing to expect out of people, remember Blackhawks?) to steal a ship that will allow them to get into the SHADE micro base, so they can then steal a ship that'll take them into space... And all they have to get through is a crazy little robot security man, who despite the payload he's got on him, gets beat by Kori, but still chases them down after the duo flies away.
Two-for-one special today on the Eternal cover reveals, one of which showing just how far this team is going with all the characters they're bringing into the title... something that I really enjoyed in this week's issue. Man, this book is going to be great.
Question my cryptic posts again, I dare you!
That's right, the one shot Robin Rises: Omega is coming in July from Peter Tomasi with art by Andy Kubert and Jonathan Glapion. Batman will have a Robin again for his 75th anniversary, but in true "fuck you, don't do this to me" fashion, Tomasi is being all coy and going "you're making a big assumption that it's Damian coming back from the dead." Stop that! Stop that right now! Who else is coming back from the dead? I mean, really. That's a big assumption, but is it incorrect, who knows?
But seriously... I can't handle this. Damian or bust... Who else are they going to make Robin? They've literally set up no one else to be Robin in the time frame we have between now and July. Do we really think Batman is going to go up to Carrie Kelley and go "Hey young lady who I barely know, you're Robin now because the New 52 demands it" ...fuck, that could totally happen.
Anyways, in other news, Batman and Robin #33 suckas! Again, don't question my cryptic posts! It has Batman and the (Lex Luthor) Justice League going to Apokolips for a chaos shard... I guess that's where that Omega comes in, and look at that cover with the eyes...
What the fuck is going on, just give me back Damian!

Hey, remember Nightwing #30, the final issue of Nightwing that was supposed to come out last week and set up whatever was going to come Dick Grayson's way? Yeah, well that got pushed back to May 28th, in a very well publicized wave of delays, all of course due to Forever Evil being pushed back to the 21st of May. At the time, I had theorized that given the size of the delay, that it seemed like a complete re-do amount of time, maybe something had been scrapped and plans were changed... Little did I know that Nightwing would be the series to get a complete re-do.

If you really thought Dick Grayson was dead, you should probably just stop reading comics. I'm serious. Try stamp collecting?
Dick Grayson is BACK! Sort of! And it's getting crazy. Coming from Tim Seeley (yay) and former CIA counterterrorism operator Tom King, Dick Grayson is "dead" to the world, but really the newest agent for a secret agency. Which secret agency you might ask? Spyral. Yes, the Grant Morrison Batman, Inc Spyral. Like I said, this sounds crazy.
And that's where we're at. I'm not going to lie, I've had a few beers, so I can't really process this fully at the moment. But hooray Tim Seeley, hooray Dick Grayson.
(Source: USA Today)
So, nows about the time DC starts handing out advanced solicits for their weeklies, but Uproxx, who seems to have been given the Eternal solicits only posted the cover and text for issue #13. No creative details or any other solicit texts for #14-17. BOOOO!
A demon from Jim Gordon’s past comes to haunt him in Blackgate while the Gang War threatens to rip Gotham City apart! Can Jason Bard keep the order without coming head to head with Batman himself?(Source: Uproxx)
The LA Times has a double page spread that follows the previous end of the preview for Batman #30 and well... I think this spread can speak for itself, because damn.

These next two weeks are pretty slim on my pull outside of Batman books, I mean hell, this week I finished my pull on Wednesday, I don't know when that happened last. Next week I don't even have a single Image book to read... April sucks!

Look at that… Young Batman trying to get some Julie booty… THE NEW 52! I mean… ZERO YEAR! …Whatever!
I feel like this Duke Thomas kid is going to be something going forward. To start Zero Year with him, and then to bring him back so he's not just a random character… Seems planned.
Whatever... I've already posted a preview for issue #3!
But seriously... Probably Carmine Falcone, it's weird for Batman to be talking to Batwoman like shs part of the team, maybe the annual will help clear that up, and Jason, that's not how you drink a beer!
(Source: Hero Complex)
I'm just going to put it on the record that say that I much preferred the first cover by Philip Tan. And in other news,

Here's the link to my eBay seller page, but as promised, here's a full list of all the trades I have for sale. I'll try and keep this updated when some get sold. Buy, buy, buy! (Note: I'll be updating this post with direct links to each item as they go live)
Ugh. Rough week coming up. Literally half the titles I cover to be written up. Also, hope you're not hearing about Batman Eternal, because welcome to your weekly reminder that another issue is coming up the following week.
- Batman #30: Lest we forget the past! Zero Year's final chapter starts next week.
- Batman Eternal #2: Gordon is arrested for killing hundreds on a train... let's see the logic behind this one.
- Batman and Wonder Woman #30: Diana... add a M to her name, rearrange the letters, and they spell "Damian" COINCIDENCE?! Yeah.
- Harley Quinn #5: Harley teams up with an elderly cyborg spy... What else is new?
- Batwoman #30: Kate's rite of passage, dealing with an Arkham breakout!
- Red Hood and the Outlaws #30: Probably one of my final issues on the series... Maybe. But The Outlaws in space! Plus Frankenstein.
HEY! Remember how I always say support Gotham Spoilers by shopping at my affiliate links? Well do that, but there's a NEW, limited way to support the site as well. I present to you... My ebay page.
As of right now (10am EST) nothing is up, but come 2pm EST (11am PST), I'll have a total of 50 trades and graphic novels that I'm probably never going to read again, so I'm trying to get rid of them. Major discounts on all of them, most books around $5 or there about, so feel free to buy in bulk (because I don't want to mail 50 separate packages) but it's first-come first-serve.
I'll have a separate post with links to each individual book up in a couple of hours. To answer a couple quick questions, yes there's combined shipping (if you buy multiple items, wait for me to do an invoice), and everything outside of one book is in pretty good condition.
DC has seemed to take notice of the early previews hitting the web recently, because they haven't been showing up lately... UNTIL NOW.
So yeah, weeklies, previewing issue #3, when #2 hasn't even hit yet. So you know... spoilers (ha!), obviously.

Because Gotham can't be normal for once in it's seemingly cursed existence, when kids get drunk and play spooky games at night, they can't just settle for Bloody Mary, and use their own urban legend, "The Midnight Man." So of course... these innocent teenagers end up actually summoning some evil shapeshifting black goo monster. Fun!

Who wants to bet they had to use different pages due to the early preview getting out there? Anyways, Pyg flying a plane with a machine gun full of syringe ammo, saying "SQUEEEEE" a bunch? That's the Pyg I know and love!
