Is Nightwing a "Bird" Related Name?

Another panel from Batman #28. Bird high, Bat low... Hmm. I guess you could refer to Nightwing as a bird-ish name, but I don't know. If anything, while I may have been mostly convinced this is Harper Row, I've never been sold on the idea of her taking the name of Nightwing.

All that said, Her hair is definitely different than Harper's. Definitely longer than we have seen in the preview panels of Harper as a civilian. And all purple, no blue... Definitely a reason to doubt.

  1. Given what Snyder has done in his runs heretofore, I'm prepared for anything to happen in Batman Eternal. Turns out blue mask-purple hair lady is Bruce's long-lost sister/daughter/third-cousin-twice-removed? Sure. After his exposure in Forever Evil, Dick Grayson underwent gender-reassignment surgery so he could assume a new identity? OK.

And for those who may not know (Bat-nerd trivia) Dick Grayson took the name Nightwing in reference to a dragon-god and later crimefighter from Superman's home planet of Krypton. Because, of course he did. Let's see Snyder top that.
