Welcome to Stack Highlights, it's like Stack Rundown but with a fraction of the effort!
And the mother of year award goes to... literally anyone but Lady Shiva
Lots of style, just need a little more easily discernible substance for my tastes.
I'm not sure exactly why most of this issue happens, but it sure is cool.

Uuuum, hey guys. I just woke up. I'm coming up blank as to what I'm going to put here before the jump.... So I'm just gonna--
Say goodbye to January, February is acomin'.
- Detective Comics #17: Bruce takes on the League of Smiles, and the Merrymaker.
- Batwing #17: Batwing does some things... I don't know? I don't the following week is going to be good for Batwing...

So, things are pretty F'd in Batman Inc land. Knight is dead, as are all of Leviathan's hostages, most of the Batman Inc members who fought the Heretic are beat to all hell, and a couple of Man-Bat ninjas swiped Bruce. Dick, Jason and Tim arrive to the scene to clean up. While Tim goes off to track Bruce, Dick tells Jason to meet up with the Hood and and try to organize the rest of the Inc team, while he comfort's Squire, whose friend and partner is now dead.
The situation at Court of Owls National Bank has gone to hell pretty quick, as Calvin gets his shit rocked, and Sebastian figures out just what he's up against. Figuring out that they're dealing with the man known as the Gotham Butcher, Sebastian suggests one thing, and one thing only, get the money, and run.
So Joker has evidentially been watching some Saw movies lately, as both Tim and Jason wake up chained together at the wrist, with Joker wanting to play a game. Joker presents both the Reds with two men, one Jason's father, one Tim's father... one of them is going to die, they need to choose. Jason isn't slow to pull a gun on Tim.
A wave of kidnappings have swept over Gotham City, and of course, Batman is the only one who can stop it. Things get a bit complicated, as this isn't a few thugs grabbing one or two kids, these are armies of thugs, snatching people in mass quantities, and armed to the teeth, so much so that they can take down the Batplane. Remember that time the Batmobile got wrecked in The Dark Knight? Yeah, well, the same thing happens, as Bruce uses the remnants to give chase to the thugs, but only manages to save one woman, as the police arrive.
Yes, yes, he's sketched Nightwing about a billion times that would probably give use a better feeling for what to expect, but here is the glimpse we've gotten at actual interiors! I'm excited, you couldn't have picked an artist better suited to jump onto Nightwing.

Now I ask you, how can little fun size Damian Bats be the harbinger of the apocalypse when he looks so damn adorable? Oh, hey Alfred... looking good.
Also, side note... you know how happy I am that there's one single artist on this Annual? So many of them have been artistic messes. How many pencillers did the Superboy annual have? Four? Five?

Got a pretty larger week than normal next week... of course it happens the week after where I go from five write ups to four. Oh well.
- Batman Incorporated #7: Gotham gets run over by a bunch of creepy little Leviathan kids, and I hope Bruce punches every single one in the face.
- Talon #4: That big bad Talon has got his hands on our good Talon, and that's probably not a good thing...
- Batman - The Dark Knight #16: Ethan Van Sciver joins the title as he and Gregg Hurwitz begin a new story about the Mad Hatter.
- Teen Titans #16: The final "Death of the Family" tie-in that sure enough will end with Tim and Jason being presented a with a bloody silver platter.
- Batman and Robin Annual #1: Like the future issues of this title, I have no real idea what to expect from this issue.

Joker is throwing a party, and the whole circus is invited! Dick, still feeling the effects of having Raya die in his arms, arrives to Amusement Mile to find Joker quite pleased with what he's done with the place, but he's taken the liberty to add his personal touch to it... which includes filling up the big top with the corpses of many past circus members... damn.
As we left off last month, the impromptu team of the Teen Titans and Outlaws, minus their Red named leaders, are left to deal with an entire abandon building's worth of jokerized hobos and vagrants. As one would expect, there's plenty of banter to go around between the two.
As one would expect, both Black Canary and Starling think Batgirl is crazy for suggesting a Talon join their ranks, and things go from bad to worse when Condor, the Birds' Japan buddy, comes flying in from nowhere, believing Strix, formerly known as Mary, is attacking his favorite gals.
Batwoman and Wonder Woman land in the middle of the war-torn shit hole that Gotham currently is, to find things going pretty badly. Among the devastation, Killer Croc turned Hydra has destroyed the building Kate was based out of, as well as all her personal memorabilia and memories. Kate begins to instinctively start fighting, heading towards the Hydra, until she's stopped by Diana, who talks some sense into her, telling Kate that she'll deal with the Hydra, as the children are still out there.

Let's be clear, I'm all for adding a Talon to the Birds, but can we just point out the fact that Babs has taken another highly talented fighter who just so happens to be mute under her wing... again?
Oh, and Batgirl is colored correctly! Hooray... it only took what, four issues?

Guess what!? Lot's o' Joker! But we also got a panel from Rafael Albuquerque's Legends of the Dark Knight chapter, which was pretty good, and had a nuts type of ending.
Well, if you missed it last month, I'll remind you: I'm done covering Catwoman until someone replaces Nocenti. So, obviously that means I will only have four books to write about next week, and that's pretty alright with me.
- Nightwing #16: Joker crashes the cirucs... and Dick will probably lose, and be presented with a silver platter.
- Red Hood and the Outlaws #16: Jason and Tim vs the Joker... and a silver platter, probably.
- Birds of Prey #16: What do you get when you add an owl to the Birds of Prey? Find out next week!
- Batwoman #16: After a brief interlude, back to the Batwoman/Wonder Woman vs Mythical Gods throw down!

Entering Arkham Asylum, Bruce finds all the guards dressed up like either himself or the Joker, in deathtraps, that he quickly gets them out of, to Joker's applause. Believing Joker must be holed up in Jeremiah Arkham's personal quarters, Bruce begins what could possibly be a death march to confront his oldest foe.
Faced with a seemingly Joker-ized Batman, Damian has no choice but to defend himself from his father's attacks, after Joker reveals that this strand of his toxin is open to commands, such as "Kill Robin." Damian holds back, trying to reach his father somewhere under the laugh, but it's no use as Batman goes straight for the kill, with every single attack, forcing Damian to fight back.
Before we attend the real wedding of the century, we see Barbara with her therapist, discussing her mental state with the wheelchair, and her dreams of getting her revenge on the Joker... oh and the guy she was supposedly dating, who fell of the face of the earth. But never mind all that, Joker and Batgirl are getting married!

Oh hey! I can actually post these covers now!
So, some creative changes to make note of... Biggest one being Brett Booth is now Nightwing's ongoing artist, and that's pretty fantastic. Then of course you've got Tynion and Suayan on Red Hood. Then we have Christy Marx, who you already know is taking over BoP. Finally, Detective Comics will be getting an 80 page issue, to celebrate the technical 900th issue of the series, I also doubt Jason Fabok will draw all of it. That's about it. Lots of questions in these solicits, answers are probably on the other half of the covers.
So, remember when Jib Zub was announced as the new Birds of Prey writer? With interviews posted about it a WEEK ago? Well, HAHA, No.
Instead, Christy Marx (who has been doing a great job on Sword of Sorcery) will take over the title. Oh, we're not done there. Remember the Constantine title that is launching in March written by Robert Venditti? You can forget about him too, as Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes (who again, I have no problem with) will be taking over that title.
I... I don't know. Rant coming up.
The interesting bit is in the article that this was announced in, it was teased that along with a new artist, Dick would be headed to a new locale, reinforcing the thought that the "Death" of the family is more metaphorical?
Oh we're not done... that was the good news.

I honestly don't know what I've been thinking in the past few weeks saying stuff like, "man, I've got a lot of books this week." Because you know what, it's every week. At least I'm looking at today's list and can know that one title is ending soon, one is a mini series, and I'm probably going to drop another one. Man, so many, many books.

Well, I can't say that I didn't see this coming. You may have read earlier the post where I had compiled a bunch of Batman covers I had found earlier today. You may have noticed that it is no where to be found at the moment... Well, that's because I got contacted by DC.
Like I said, I saw this coming. I'm just surprised it had taken four or five months. Anyways, I was asked very politely to adhere to the embargo on the images, and obviously I complied. I've never had to use it, but I've always had a personal policy to agree to any request of something not being put up on the site. For instance, it was always in the back of my mind that some writer could be annoyed by the fact that I post detailed spoilers of everything that happens in each issue, that could possibly mean some people don't bother to pick up said issue, and it all goes downhill from there. So I've always been prepared for something like this, as I never really intend to stir the pot.
So that's that. I got an email from DC's PR, they were very nice, didn't threaten any legal action or anything. The damage has been done though, but the images have gone a bit viral, and I'm sure you don't have to worry about Bleeding Cool taking them down. Nevertheless, so ends my streak of leaking covers.
PS: Considering that they contacted me at my primary email address, which I'm pretty sure isn't attached to this site in anyway, was also enough to get me to not fuck around anymore... Only a few people in the industry know me by name, so I don't know... #snitchesgetstitches (this is a joke, by the way...)
PPS: For precautionary reasons, I'll probably avoid all major conventions, as I don't want to find myself in a dark alley with Dan Didio breaking my legs... just sayin'. (this... not so much)
Well, we know one of the projects he'll be doing during the American Vampire hiatus. Albuquerque will also be writing this story as well, which is a surprise. Looks awesome, and a bit Joker-y. It'll hit in February/March, apparently.
I'm going to guess that DC will have a post up at some point soon announcing the next line up for the digital/print title, as we got to the last one they had announced previously a month ago. Of names announced, I won't be surprised if the Batman stuff Sean Murphy has been working on is also part of Legends of the Dark Knight. Perhaps he's writing his own story as well?
(Source: Robot 6)
So apparently Ed Benes still is the artist on the title? Sort of? Every time DC seems to attempt and re-team Benes and Simone, he seems to start these streaks of being unable to finish any single issue in full, minus the first one. (Birds of Prey volume 2)
Scott Snyder has done a handful of terrible things to Bruce in his own book, but Snyder's sadistic love for inflicting pain on Batman holds no limits, as things in Rotworld Gotham are pretty fucked. Last month we saw Alec Holland's introduction Barbara Gordon, who had gained Man-Bat like powers, this month, we see just how overrun Gotham became when the Rot took over.
So I was starting to worry that DC had changed their file labeling, as I have entered already HUNDREDS of URLs to bookmark, and constantly check, but didn't get anything... until today. All the april covers minus Talon and The Dark Knight! WOO! (Didn't post Red Hood because it's down below). There's one I'm particularly excited for, which I'm going to guess we'll have more on later.
PS: Here are a bunch of other covers I found.
Let's just say that after this rumor first popped up, I had heard some confirming talk, but nevertheless waited to get official word, which is: James Tynion IV and Mico Suayan will be taking over Red Hood and The Outlaws in April.
Very excited for the news, and the interview James gives with Newsarama excites me even more. Good things to come, that's for sure...
UPDATE: Tyler Kirkham tweeted a couple days ago that he was drawing the 18th issue as well, or at least part of it, I can't really tell due to the wording.

The big ol' "Death of the Family" week is what we got to look forward to.
- Batman #16: The big kahuna of the week's titles where Joker does some bad shit to Batman.
- Batman and Robin #16: Joker is going to do some bad shit to Robin!
- Batgirl #16: You guessed it, Joker is going to do some bad shit to Batgirl (and Gail Simone, but she'll be back in April...)
