Panels of the Week, 07/25/2013

This is a combination of both this week and last, given that there wasn't enough to dedicate a single post to last week. So hooray, more than usual.

Batman and Catwoman #22: This issue made me miss pre-New 52 Bruce and Selina so god damn much. This was a perfect example of why... so much better than the shit that is currently Catwoman.

Batman - Li'l Gotham #15: It's one thing that Batman is interrogating Dustin Nguyen and Derek Fridolfs, but my favorite detail is the "Not Jim Lee (No line!)" sign.

Batman/Superman #2: So, basically what I'm saying is, everyone who writes Catwoman in their book is way better than what Catwoman currently is. She was great in this issue.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #22: I said this would make 90's Rob Liefeld look twice, and I have to say I laughed my ass off at this page. I really hope 90s Liefeld was the reference here, because it's that ridiculous. What's that flag for?! Why is there a skull taped to that gun?! So ridiculous.

Talon #10: Honesty, I just thought this page was kind of badass.

Batman - The Dark Knight #22: I just love how freaking gross looking Maleev made Clayface in this panel.

  1. Wait, that's drawn by Maleev? Man, it looks more like it was drawn by Rafael Albuquerque with that use of color and inking.

  2. "This issue made me miss pre-New 52 Bruce and Selina so god damn much."

What the difference between pre-New 52 Bruce and Selina with current Bruce and Selina? The last time I check that, for most part, Bruce and Selina are relatively the same since before the reboot. But then again I could be wrong with that.

    1. I must point out that the following words I'm going to type are not meant as an insult... are you fucking kidding me?!

Pre New 52 Bruce and Selina actually knew each other, both in and out of costume. While they tip toed on the line, they were friends, allies and lovers from time to time. They actually had a multi layered relationship with genuine emotion fueling it, now it's god knows what, and completely dependent on whoever is writing any given issue featuring them. There's stuff like this which is very reminiscent of Pre New 52 Bat/Cat, but then there's stuff like Ann Nocenti writing those two which makes me want to vomit.

If you haven't read it, I'd suggest picking up Batman: Heart of Hush, it is exactly what I miss from those two.

  3. "So, basically what I'm saying is, everyone who writes Catwoman in their book is way better than what Catwoman currently is." Thank you thank you thank you! Couldn't agree more!

    I can't take that crap-Catwoman-issue anymore =(!
