Giant nazi Cthulhu monsters, android viruses, and burning orphanages... An average week in comics, if you ask me.

SPOILERS: Batman and Robin #35

Asses of Apokolips, prepare to be kicked by Batman.

SPOILERS: Batman Eternal #28

Bodies are dropping and Catwoman is sharpening her claws.

Stack Rundown, 10/11/2014

Lots of indie stuff to read this week, so appropriately enough, I've only got one of these books to read next week.

SPOILERS: Batman #35

Show of hands... Who else was genuinely surprised by that ending?

  1. …Please tell me that the old logo in the background means he'll get his costume back. Honestly, as far as DC is concerned, giving someone their classic costume may as well be considered "Unthinkable" by now.

    1. Didn't Powergirl get her old costume back?

  2. Dick Grayson dies, Tim Drake replaces him as Nightwing.

I am totally psychic, just watch and gasp as I get it right.

  3. Or maybe Dick will become evil ? A DC version of Cyclops's path ? Please don't make him die, for the love of comics !

  4. Has anyone considered the possibility that that is red paint? After injury/tragedy, Dick Grayson appears to be walking away from his Nightwing identity for a tamer life of home repair, but is really going undercover to bring down an evil contractor. I'd read it.

  5. My first thought was he becomes evil too. He gets pushed to far, kills a dude, and that's it - snowballing into an avalanche.

I mean, we need to have one evil bastard ex-Robin out there, amiright? Right!?

  6. It looks like the old Nightwing symbol is bleeding away and the Nightwing symbol from Young Justice, Batman the animated series and Injustice: Gods among us will emerge - but will Grayson still be under the domino mask? Makes sense to have one version of the symbol but I don't want Grayson to die - too awful to contemplate.

    1. Speaking of Young Justice (great show), maybe Dick goes undercover as a villain like Aqualad did on the show? Someone's got to infiltrate that new Secret Society.

  8. PLEASE DON'T LET HIM DIE!!!! I'd be perfectly fine if he became evil, BUT NOT IF HE'S DEAD!

  9. I don't understand!! The October 2013 solitications have a Nightwing annual and a regular issue of Nightwing in which both comics have a Dick Grayson who is alive and well.
What kind of shit are they trying to pull here?
They got rid of all the amazing female characters I loved with this New 52 and then they trashed my former favorite series: Birds of Prey.
Do they honestly want to lose readers? Do they have nothing better to put out? Geeze

    1. Forever Evil is gonna be like, six or seven issues, so assuming they follow a normal schedule it won't be over until February or March. Nightwing solicits in October prove nothing.

About the state of females in DC's world, yeah, sorry. No defense for that. And with the new Harley Quinn cover, it doesn't look like things are getting better.

    2. You know that cover was drawn by a woman, right?

    3. I wasn't sure if this Forever Evil was for the series or the month of Septemeber alone.
If it was the latter, then the October solicits would have meant something. But you have a point, it could be for the ongoing miniseries.
Yep, females in the DC world are going downhill, and when the create a great female character like Poison Ivy or Starling, then they're either moved away from the spotlight or taken away altogether.

    4. Still doesn't help. The charm of Harley has been her ditzy, almost child like mind set. Its like DC threw out that and tried to turn her into a scantly-clad badass that calls back to the nineties almost.

    5. I'm sorry, have you read the book yet? If so, I'd really like to know how it is.

    6. Gotham Spoilers, doesn't matter who drew it. There would be mass riots if Bruce was on the cover of Batman in a bikini humping a wall. Yet for women, this is expected.

It reminds me of some time ago, when Tyler, the Creator made a series of commercials for Mountain Dew that were racist AGAINST black people! Being made by an African American individual didn't change the fact that they were highly offensive.

And yes, I WAS fully aware that cover was drawn by a woman.

    7. Then by all means, you should give as much shit to Amanda Conner for being sexist that other creators get.

The fact is, some people act like an artist drawing a female character with a little sex appeal and cheesecake is automatically a terrible, sexist thing. It is not. The first 12 issues of Power Girl were FULL of cheesecake, but was the series sexist? Not at all. There's a huge difference between an artist like Amanda Conner, who obviously enjoys drawing women with a bit of cheesecake, and an artist like Greg Land who straight up copies porn. An artist like Amanda Conner consciously choses to draw the way she does, and good for her. I'd rather Amanda Conner draw all the cheesecake she want, than fall victim to bullshit pressure to draw all her characters in a burlap sack.

    8. Wow, way to overreact. I'm not giving Amanda Conner or ANYONE shit about this, I'm just pointing it out. I'm not here to have a discussion on sexism in the comics industry (and media in general) because we'll BOTH get nowhere, but it is there and you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. I'm not asking for all female characters to wear burlap sacks, but I'm sick of them being treated as extra vaginas lying around for male characters' pleasure.

For example, name one reason why Supergirl "dresses" like that below the waist, besides for the artist and teenage boys to fap to. Also, ANYTHING BY SCOTT LOBDELL.

    9. And going back to the Harley Quinn cover, you're lumping something into the problem (that I'm not denying exists) without even reading it, and just judging it on a piece of promo art.

    10. Buddy, I don't have to read it. I'm not criticizing the contents of the book. I'm criticizing the cover, which I have seen.

    11. It all depends on whose looking at the sexual pictures of female characters. It's subjective: some will see sexism while others see it as entertainment.
When you look at World's finest, how much bigger did Power Girls chest get once they brought back the boob window?
When female characters run around in panties and short shorts, there's nothing practical about that.
You can still make sexy female characters without putting them in trashy costumers, just look at the "Marvel Now!" versions of the female X-men. (excluding Emma Frost and Magick of course).

  10. OMG I'm excited (probably because I have no fear of him dying - closest he'll get is the other heroes will think he is)

is this going to be an alternate cover? if it is awesome.
I've been trying to work out if the buildings at the bottom are Chicago, Gotham, somewhere else or just random buildings?
